Day 25
The Physician's Hands
_______________________________
Dear Praying Friend,
There is no doubt that David needed a great physician to write him a prescription that would relieve him of his horrible, and painful, affliction. The physical effects he was suffering seemed bad enough to keep people away, but the psychologically and emotional distress that kept him up wailing and mourning were even more certain to keep visitors away from his bedside.
As we meditate on Psalm 38:3-8 today, we find the once exalted "man after God's own heart" groaning at the anguish of his afflicted heart; how far he has fallen from his regal throne into the depths of sinful squalor. We find him, once again, wailing, "There is no health in my body." How correct his statement was - for apart from God our bodies do not function as they were created to be.
"My son, pay attention to what I say;
listen closely to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them
and health to a man's whole body."
(Proverbs 4:20-22)
Dear Heavenly Father, how we praise You for Your Word, for in Your Truth we find light and life. You created us, You knit us in our mother's womb, and You know what is best for us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Forgive us when we turn anywhere else to try to find the healing and help that can only be found through You and Your Word. Your Word tells us to 'fear the Lord and shun evil, this will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones'. Lord, You have given us a prescription for all our ailments, we ask that You write it on our hands and bind them to our foreheads. Lord, we desire to be healthy that we might be able to bear with the "failings of the weak" and to encourage our brothers and sisters, instead of being a stumbling block to them. In our own suffering, we ask that You would give us a deeper sensitivity to others who are suffering with painful afflictions. Lord, we lift up in prayer our brothers and sisters who are enduring unbearable injuries and illnesses, asking that You would comfort them and reveal Your plan for their future health and healing through Your word. Help us to not turn our backs on those who are suffering, to not pour salt on their open wounds; instead, let us offer them the healing power of Your Word. Lord, You heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds. Thank You for being our great Physician. We praise You for Your hand of mercy and grace that brings us healing and forgiveness. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
Steadfast in prayer,
