HIS HAND
OF FAVOR
"It was not by their sword
that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them
victory;
it was Your right hand,
Your arm, and
the light of Your face,
for You loved them."
(Psalm 44:2-3)

Day 19

Out of my hands

_____________________

Dear Praying Friend,

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).  This verse is so straightforward, the requirements are simply stated, and the results are a blessing, not a burden.  Why then do we find it easier to use our mouth to whine, complain, accuse, curse, justify, lie, and cover up, instead of simply opening our mouths to confess our sins?

Our meditation of Psalm 32:5 today begins with "Then I acknowledged my sin..." David endured so much pain and suffering under the weight of his own guilt and shame, the insults and mocking of his enemies, and the heavy pressure of the Lord's hand, when all he had to do was simply "acknowledge his sin"("confess"), and he could have gone straight to the promised blessing, "...and You forgave the guilt of my sin."  The Lord has given us a perfect pathway to forgiveness, yet we often ignore His way as we attempt (unsuccessfully, no less!) to try every side street and short cut, instead of simply heading straight to His throne.  How blessed we are that He is waiting to take it out of our hands, whenever we are ready to surrender.

"For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is His love for those who fear Him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far has He removed our transgressions from us."
(Psalm 103:11-12)

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise You for the perfect path of forgiveness that You have laid out for us.  That path has been paved with the priceless and precious blood of Your one and only Son, Jesus Christ. We offer You our praise, and come to You in humble confession of our sins. We ask forgiveness for remaining silent in our sin and confess our feeble attempts to try to cover them up. Lord, we cannot hide from You; You see all, and You bore the full weight of our sin on the cross, even remaining silent as Your blood was poured out to make a covering  for our sin.  Forgive us for taking Your sacrifice for granted. We have no right to ask for anything more, but we desire this one thing:  to restore our communion with You. Guide us down the path of restoration, we pray. 'Who is a God like You, who pardons sins and forgives the transgressions of the remnant of His inheritance?  You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.  You will again have compassion on us; You will tread all our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea'.  Thank You, Abba, that we can release our grasp on our sin by coming to You in confession; and You are faithful to remove them from our hands, take them out of our sight, out of our reach, and cast them into the deep ocean where You remember them no more. We offer You our humble gratitude and our highest praise. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Steadfast in prayer,
