Day 16
Hand of Blessing
________________________
Dear Praying Friend,
In our prayer meditation yesterday we were reminded that out of our mouths should flow words of blessings, not cursings. Our desire should be to imitate the heart of God with every word we speak and with everything we do. This is a reflection of the heart of God, who desires to bless His children who love Him and who obey His commands.
Our meditation of Psalm 32:1-2 today begins with a pronouncement of the "blessed". Here we find David expressing his enthusiasm over being the benefactor of the Lord's blessings; as one who has confessed his sins, put his trust in God, and who reveres and does the will of God. Throughout the Scriptures we find more "declarations of blessedness" (also called the "Beatitudes"): in the Psalms: 1:1; 32:1; 34:8; 40:4; 65:4; 84:5, 12; 94:12; 112:1; in the Sermon on the Mount discourse found in Matthew 5:3-12; and in the Book of Revelation: 1:3; 14:13; 16:15; 19:9; 20:6; 22:7, 14. As Thanksgiving Day approaches let us take the time to praise and give thanks to the Lord for His many blessings in our lives; especially for His extraordinary gift of salvation and the forgiveness of sins which has brought us such blessed relief and happiness. "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift (2 Corinthians 9:15)!
"Praise the LORD, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise His holy name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all His benefits -
Who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
Who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."
(Psalm 103:1-5)
Dear Heavenly Father, we want to praise You, as David did, for the freedom we have in Christ through the forgiveness of sins. How blessed we are when we come to You in honesty and humility. Blessed is the man You discipline Lord; blessed is the man who fears the Lord; blessed is the man who seeks the Lord with all his heart; blessed is the man who walks in the way of the Lord; blessed is the man who keeps the Lord's commands; blessed is the man who has regard for the weak; blessed is the man who maintains justice, blessed is the man who is kind to the needy; blessed is the man who keeps his hand from doing any evil; for we will be delivered and we will lack no good thing. 'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight'. May we never take for granted the price You paid for the forgiveness of our sins and may we daily sing a song of gratitude until the whole earth joins in singing Your glorious praises. How truly blessed we are. Thank You, Father. In Jesus' Name. Amen
Steadfast in prayer,
