HIS HAND
OF FAVOR
"It was not by their sword
that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them
victory;
it was Your right hand,
Your arm, and
the light of Your face,
for You loved them."

Day 8

Healing Hand

________________________

Dear Praying Friend,

This past week as we meditated on the mighty hand of God at work in our life, we reflected on Psalm 77 and we were able to sympathize with the psalmist as he struggled with disappointment and despair over the apparent rejection of God in the nation.  Digging a little deeper, and persevering in prayer a little longer, we were able to lift our eyes to heaven and experience renewed confidence in the Lord that He has not left or forsaken us; instead, He is leading us down the path that will draw us nearer to Him and will fulfill His purposes of bringing salvation to the whole earth.

Today, as we continue on our 77 day journey of prayer we need to press in further, allowing the Lord to speak to our hearts, and be willing to face the Truth of what He is after and why He allowing us to walk this current path.

"Seventy 'sevens' are decreed for your people and your holy city
to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for
wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness,
to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy."
(Daniel 9:24)

Jesus Christ accomplished the first three purposes mentioned in the above stated verse through His crucifixion and resurrection, and still, the world continues to struggle and wallow in the depth and destruction of sin.  We must ask ourselves: what is it we are praying for?  Do we want healing so we can be rid of the persistent pain and go back to our normal lives? Or do we truly desire cleansing so we can live a life of holiness that is pleasing and honorable to the Lord?

Our nation continues to put finger-tip bandaid solutions on an oozing, life-threatening injury.  We do not have the luxury of wallowing in self-pity, expecting this cancer to simply go away on its' own.  This problem has infected the Body of Christ and the only way to cure it is to rip the band-aid off and face the issue head on.  We need to call the disease what it is - SIN - and bring it to the head - Jesus Christ!

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart,
O God, You will not despise."
(Psalm 51:17)

For the next seven weeks we will meditate on the seven penitential psalms as we continue in prayer for the Body of Christ to recognize its' need for repentance as the route to deeper intimacy with the Lord.  These psalms are expressions of the humble and contrite heart the Lord is looking for, and will help bring the necessary healing our painful affliction requires.  "You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove it" (Joshua 7:13b).

Today, begin by meditating on Psalm 6 in preparation for our prayer journey this week.

Dear Heavenly Father, we confess your Bride is not as healthy as she should be.  We are not suffering from a case of the sniffles because we have been out in the cold too long; on the contrary, we are in desperate need of your healing hand because we are deeply infected with a flesh-eating virus that has paralyzed the Church.  Lord, we look to you for help to bring us out of our current affliction. We humbly request that you would restore us to fullness of health and vitality so that we can be witnesses to the world of your healing power and your saving grace.  Forgive us that we have neglected caring for your Body as we should.  We realize the pain and suffering we are experiencing are our own doing, Lord, we are ready to take our medicine.  We submit to you, our Great Physician, and we surrender to your hand of discipline.  Lord, restore our health and heal our wounds. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
