HIS HAND
OF FAVOR
"It was not by their sword
that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them
victory;
it was Your right hand,
Your arm, and
the light of Your face,
for You loved them."
(Psalm 44:2-3)

Day 6

Powerful Hand

_______________________________

Dear Praying Friend,

There is no god that acts on behalf of the people other than the Lord God Almighty.  "Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides You, Who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him" (Isaiah 64:4). He is majestic in power - power that has been in effect since the creation of the world and is shown clearly in His redemptive work and judgment.

As we meditate on Psalm 77:16-18 today, we read of the Lord's majesty proclaimed in the form of a thunderstorm and an earthquake.  The Lord uses the physical elements of His creation to reveal His power and announce His presence.  He displayed His power in this manner at the parting of the Red Sea (reference Exodus 14:21-22, 27); He revealed both His power and presence at Mt. Sinai (reference Exodus 19:16-19), and again to Elijah on Mt. Horeb (reference 1 Kings 19:11-13); and He displayed His power over the wind and the waters to His disciples on the Sea of Galilee (reference Luke 8:24b).  "He stilled the storm to a whisper, the waves of the sea were hushed" (Psalm 107:29).

All of creation is at His command.  As He ordered His creation out of the chaos of the cosmos, so too, He will also bring peaceful order among the nations through His redemptive power.  If He can calm the turbulent seas, He can most assuredly calm the turbulent chaos of the current world order.  Throughout His Word, the clouds, the waters, and the storms were representative of His redemption power or His pending judgment.  We can trust today that when the storms are raging around us it is the Lord's hand at work "...to punish men, or to water His earth and show His love" (Job 37:13).  As we pray, let us continue to remember all those impacted by the devastating affects of Hurricane Sandy.

"The LORD reigns, He is robed in majesty;
the LORD is robed in majesty
and is armed with strength.
The world is firmly established;
it cannot be moved.
Your throne was established long ago;
You are from all eternity.
The seas have lifted up, O LORD,
the seas have lifted up their voice;
the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,
mightier than the breakers of the sea -
the LORD on high is mighty."
(Psalm 93:1-4)

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise You that You have been speaking to Your creation from the moment You uttered from the heavens,  "Let there be light" to when You uttered from the earth, "You are the light of the world".  Today, You are still speaking; while the earth and all its people quake - You are holding Your creation firm. We praise You that You reveal Yourself in mighty ways.  Lord, You command the winds and the waters, and they obey You.  You are always working on our behalf to fulfill Your great plans.  We praise You that there is nothing in all of creation that is out of Your control.  That same power that rebuked the wind, dried up the sea, announced Your presence, and raised You from the dead is at work in and through Your children who believe in You.  We are Your servants through the working of Your power - help us to be strong in the Lord and in Your mighty power.  We will praise You, O Lord, with all our heart; we will tell of Your wonders.  We will be glad and rejoice in You; we will sing praise to Your name until the whole earth is full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. "For You will come like a pent-up flood that the breatth of the LORD drives along."  In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Steadfast in prayer,
