It's February and love is in the air!
Westwood classes always do something special for Valentine's Day, but this year we're adding to the fun by incorporating the Class Art Project creation into their day. Class Art Projects are always popular auction items and your children would be thrilled to own theirs! Class Art Projects are coordinated by the Gala & Auction team, so please see their section of this newsletter for more info.
The Gala & Auction on March 9th is the biggest event that the PBC hosts each year. It's an important community-building event for our parents that should not be missed. The Auction also acts as a fundraiser to fund PBC events for the following year and to generate a donation for the school. We're hoping the Gala's proceeds this year will help the school buy much needed transportation: school vans or a bus. Join us on March 9th to party for the best cause: our kids!
The Gala & Auction chairs work hard to find new ways to 'mix it up'. They do a lot of work behind the scenes to help the event run more smoothly year over year, but they also find ways to change up the party to keep it fresh. Make sure you read the Gala & Auction section below for the many changes this year.
I'm getting really excited about our biggest event of the year! I'd like to send a huge thank you to Jen Robinson and Cara Wood as they continue to work hard to bring all the details together to create a wonderful evening for us to build community and fundraiser for the school...thank you, ladies!
I look forward to seeing all of you at the Gala & Auction,
Whitney Lemons Parent Booster Club President

Our Gala & Auction theme this year is Le Coeur de Westwood which translates to The Heart of Westwood. The Gala & Auction is just a month away, and there is a lot to get excited about as we gear up to celebrate the very heart of our school: our families!
Invitations went out the week of January 23rd and RSVP's are due on February 4th! Seating is VERY limited for this event, so we encourage you to snag a seat and/or a table while they are still available!
We need volunteers to assist with various projects. Some positions are explained below and please be on the lookout for fliers detailing more ways you can help make this don't-miss event truly wonderful. Additional information about the Gala is also below, including special room rates the night of the event and (NEW THIS YEAR) our family brunch the morning after! We look forward to answering any questions you may have and, most of all, to celebrating alongside you on March 9th!
From our hearts to yours, Cara Wood and Jennifer Weintraub Robinson

Class Art Projects:
Valentine's Day seemed like the perfect opportunity to focus exclusively on our heart-themed class art projects! On February 14th we will take over the gym and work together to create each class' unique work of art to be sold to the highest bidder on March 9th. These projects are carefully created by our children and each class takes great pride in representing themselves with creativity, flair, and maybe even a little glitter. Can you help? We are looking for 1-2 parents from each class to assist on this day. You do NOT need to be artsy or craftsy or even know how to work a glue gun. Just bring your enthusiasm, a smile, and set aside a few hours on Valentine's Day to help your child's class get messy. Lunch and that warm fuzzy feeling you'll get just from helping are included. Interested? Email your room parent to volunteer and check out our Pinterest board for ideas!
Sponsorships and Donations: If you or your business are interested in underwriting a portion of the event, we would love to roll out the red carpet for you! Likewise, if you or someone you know is interested in donating an item, we would love to hear from you! Donations can be a specific item (these can range from a gift certificate to a car, and everything in between), an experience (a trip, air miles, a suite at a game or concert, etc), or a service (photography, home organization, landscaping, etc). Sponsorship opportunities can fill specific needs (cocktail hour prior to the event, centerpieces, decor, etc) and benefit your company or business at the same time. Details and forms can be found online at www.westwoodschool.org/auction/
Event Volunteers: As always, volunteers the night of the event help everything run smoothly! We promise to not keep you from the party any longer than necessary. Please be on the lookout for fliers in your Wednesday folders detailing the kinds of help we need.
Best Parties: Our old favorite is back this year in the form of (drumroll, please) BEST PARTIES! What is a Best Party? First, if this is your first year, know that these sell fast and furious and you will need to move quick to grab a spot! Best Parties are hosted by individuals or groups of families for a specific number of attendees (up to 10 people, for example) Spots are available for purchase. Would you like to host a party? Prior hits have included a crawfish boil, a wine tasting, a "dive-in" family movie night, a scotch and cigar party, girls' night in, scavenger hunt, and the list goes on! Please email us with your Best Party idea ASAP! auction@westwoodschool.org *Best Parties will preview this week, and will go on sale February 4th! See below for more information. |

Le Coeur de Westwood Information |
A few things to keep in mind as we creep closer to March 9th:
RSVP!: This is a seated dinner and we anticipate selling out. RSVP on February 4th with your dinner selection.
RSVP Day: February 4th: (note-this is also "Muffins for Mom") Cara and Jen will be accepting RSVP's in the front lobby from 7-10am. Tables will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so come early to snag the one you want right off our floor plan! Buying a table gives you premium seating and the ability to choose your table-mates. Individual tickets and Best Parties will also be sold at this time. Bring your checkbook or credit/debit card and completed RSVP card on this date!
Cocktail Hour: Join us from 6-7pm for a pre-party before the dinner and auction begins! The bar will be open, complimentary hors d'oeurves will be served, and the photo booth will be rocking and rolling! Prepare to mingle, admire, and show off your mask!
Rockstar Karaoke: Not only will this year's event include Time Machine, an amazing live band, but after the silent auction ends the party will continue with Rockstar Karaoke! Stand up and sing WITH the band, and release your inner rockstar. Rumor has it that our first performer will be Westwood's own Head of High School, Tony Greenall. Check out the karaoke song list and get ready!
Hotel Room Rate: This year's Gala will continue into the night (er, morning), and we have secured a discounted room rate so you don't need to watch the clock or scurry home before midnight. Rooms are available to Westwood families for $83, book with code WEWS at 800.228.9290.
Brunch: New this year is our family brunch the morning after! Join us from 10am-12pm in the hotel restaurant for one last chance to relive the night. Attendance is optional, sunglasses are recommended, and masks are NOT required at this "Dutch treat" event. Children are welcome! |
Kids' Raffle Baskets are back by popular demand! Each classroom donates items that will be packaged together and raffled off at school. This is a great time for the kids to get excited about the Gala. Please check the theme list outside each classroom for ideas. Place your donation in your classroom's basket through February 14th. Get creative with the items! The children (and parents) enjoy perusing the final, packaged baskets and trying to decide where to 'spend' any tickets that their family buys. A ticket container will be next to each basket starting on February 20th. The raffle will take place in the gym on March 8th, the day before our big Gala & Auction. This fundraiser allow the children to help raise money for their school while learning a lesson in probability. Dates to remember: January 22-February 14: Basket item collection February 19: Baskets on display in the lobby February 20: Tickets go on sale March 8: Basket raffle |
