Message from the PBC President

Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday. I love this time of year; mainly because of the cooler weather and extra time to relax with family.

A member of our community is helping to bring some holiday spirit to our soldiers who are unable to be with their families. Jill Boyce (Kiki Bonlie in LE2's grandmother) is putting together Holiday Boxes to send to Afghanistan. Let's help fill those boxes! I'll put a collection box in the main lobby of the Proton campus for the week following our Thanksgiving Break. The Westwood collection box will be out November 26-30. Fill the collection box with personal letters of support, foods, fun items, and personal items. Please see the flyer for specific information. Not only is this a great way to spread joy, it's a fabulous way to teach your children about being part of a larger community, empathy, and being thankful for the service of our troops. A hand-written note or drawn picture is the #1 most requested item! Holiday Boxes for the Troops Flyer

On the home front, our last PBC-run community event was the Sock Hop where fun was had by all. I'd like to thank all the volunteers, but especially Vanessa and Julia for chairing such a fun, family event for our community. The live band, Johnny Diamond and the Silver Hubcap Band, made the evening extra special and was led by Jayden-Faith and Jace Fraser's grandfather!

Speaking of events, did you know that this school year, the PBC is hosting two whole-family events and two adult-only events? These events only happen with the hard work of our volunteers!

Event #1: We started the year by hosting the Packet Pick-Up Palooza during the summer where families could visit and have fun while gathering all their paperwork for the school year.

Event #2: Once the school year was underway, we hosted the Fall Social/Reception to welcome new parents, reconnect with each other after the summer, and 'kick off' the school year.

Event #3: Most recently, we hosted the Sock Hop for families to enjoy some 50's style fun. We enjoyed yummy desserts, balloons, dancing, hula hoops, and more!

Event #4: Our final event of the year will be our Gala and Auction on March 9th. Write this date down in PEN, plan to buy your tickets early, and start inviting friends because this party will be amazing! Jen and Cara are hard at work soliciting donations. They've also secured the venue, set the menu, hired an auctioneer, and booked the entertainment! They've mentioned 'rock star karaoke' a few times, but in case you're not sure what it means...you'll have the opportunity to sing karaoke with a live band and discover what it would be like to be a real rock star! Please check out the new  auction page on the Westwood website for all auction information and to download donation forms: www.westwoodschool.org/auction/   In addition to these large events, we also coordinate smaller ones like class parties, Moms' Night Outs, teacher luncheons, teacher birthdays, and more.

Our events are fun, but their main purpose is to strengthen our community. I hope to see you at our next big PBC event: La Coeur de Westwood (The Heart of Westwood) Gala and Auction on March 9th. Get your masquerade mask ready!!

Sincerely,

Whitney Lemons
PBC President
