For those of you who need something quickly but can't get to us, we will now come to you! We are providing delivery to a few suburbs to see how it works. We will deliver any purchase over $25 to the following suburbs: Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette,
Glenview east of Shermer Rd., Northfield, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe, and Highland Park. Orders must be placed by 3:30 pm for same day delivery and will arrive by 7:00 pm. Fee for delivery is $6.95 to $9.95, depending on location. Just call us at (847) 864-1600 to make your order.
Our 19th Anniversary Sale and Event will take place from Thursday, May 16th to Saturday, May 18th. This is OUR BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR, so plan to stock up on all of your favorite items. Taming Seasonal Allergies the Natural Way

It seems like everyone has some sort of allergy this year. An allergic reaction occurs when the immune system misinterprets a harmless substance as a threat and releases histamines to fight the perceived threat. The symptoms of an allergic reaction can vary and may include shortness of breath, runny nose, itching of the eyes, nose or throat, sneezing, fatigue, respiratory and nasal congestion, headache, hives or other skin rashes. Read on for natural relief from allergies.
Where are allergens found?
Allergens are found either in the environment or in food. We will devote this article only to the discussion of environmental allergies, since food allergies are a subject unto themselves. The most common indoor allergens include:
- mold
- animal dander
- dust
- feathers
- certain cosmetics
- household products
- certain metals (especially nickel)
- lanolin
The most common outdoor allergens are tree, grass and weed pollens, insect venom and mold spores.
What is the cause of allergies?
The cause of specific allergies is unknown, but it has been found that heredity can play a part. If a parent has allergies, one out of three of their children will likely experience allergies. A generally depressed immune system and high levels of stress may also play a part in the severity of allergies. Allergies, if left untreated, can result in chronic sinusitis, a condition with persistent inflammation of the mucus membranes in the sinuses that ultimately can prevent the membranes from performing their defense function, not to mention being terribly uncomfortable.
How does one tell the difference between an allergy and a cold?
Many times people come in with a "cold that they just can't shake", which more than likely, is really allergies. A cold will usually run its course in 7 to 10 days, and may be accompanied by a low fever and fatigue. Symptoms from allergies can last weeks or even months, depending on how long one is exposed to the allergen. The character of mucus with a cold tends to be thicker and more yellow in color, as opposed to very thin and clear with allergies. You may sneeze with a cold or allergies, but the sneezing from allergies is likely to be more persistent and spasmodic. The congestion from allergies can also lead to a cold or sinus infection if persistent and unrelieved.
How can I tell what I am allergic to?
One way to tell what you are allergic to is to have a skin test performed. One limitation of skin tests is that, the more things you are allergic to, the more unreliable the test is. Another way to tell what you are allergic to is to look at the timing of your symptoms. Tree pollen allergies are at their height in the Chicago area from late March to mid-May. Grass pollens are worst in late May and into June. Mold spores peak in July and August and ragweed and other weed pollens peak in August and into the fall.
