Elementary Educators Night: Thursday, August 25th, 4pm @ Fiction Addiction, FREE*

We will be serving wine and cheese, handing out gift bags with free children's books, and discussing the topic of author visits -- how to get them at a discount and how to make the visits successful! Speakers will include Jill Hendrix, Fiction Addiction owner; Malinda Edmonston, Media Specialist at Pelham Road Elementary; and Jane Robertson, retired Northwood Middle Media Specialist. Attendees will receive a 20% discount on any merchandise purchased that day. Teachers can also earn professional development credit by submitting your attendance at this event to Candice Moore (cvmoore@greenville.k12.sc.us). Please RSVP to Fiction Addiction if you plan to attend so we know how many gift bags to make up!

Book Talk: The Mysterious Benedict Society
The Mysterious Benedict Society The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart, the first book in a quartet, received multiple starred reviews and was a 2009-10 SC Children's Book Award nominee, a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, winner of the E.B. White Read Aloud Award, and an ALA Notable Children's Book. The story follows four very special children who pass a series of mysterious, mind-bending tests and are then given a secret mission that only the most intelligent and resourceful children could complete. Themes of the book include teamwork, friendship, overcoming challenges, and self-discipline. The children succeed, not because of out-of-this-world superpowers, but through their own wits and intelligence. Since tests are a fact of life in school, every child can relate, and the class could also use the book to discuss test-taking techniques. Click here for an educator's guide. Math and Science teachers could use the companion book, The Mysterious Benedict Society: Mr. Benedict's Book of Perplexing Puzzles, Elusive Enigmas, and Curious Conundrums to teach logic and problem solving. Extra credit could be given to students who attend Trenton Lee Stewart's free public event at the library.

Host Trenton Lee Stewart at Your School!
The Secret Keepers We are looking for a school to host Trenton Lee Stewart on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 27th. This event will cost $807.00 plus any applicable sales tax. The cost includes 50 copies of the author's new book, The Secret Keepers, with a 15% discount, which you can give away or resell to students. If you're interested, please email info@fiction-addiction.com.

Fabulous Author Presenters
Peggy Eddleman Author Peggy Eddleman visited West Pelzer Elementary and Monarch Elementary last May to discuss her SC Children's Book Nominee, Sky Jumpers, and its sequel, Forbidden Flats. Media Specialists Beth and Carla thought she gave a fabulous presentation: "4th and 5th graders at West Pelzer Elementary enjoyed hearing Peggy share about the process of writing/publishing and how she came up with her ideas for Sky Jumpers. Her visit really helped students see that authors are real people, too, and they can become one as well" (Carla Nash). Peggy is interested in returning to Greenville for more visits in 2016-17. She can be contacted at peggyeddleman@gmail.com.
