June 2016

Now that the kids have been out of school for a week and are already complaining of boredom, bring them by the store to stock up on books for the beach, camping trip or wherever your plans are taking you.

Also, please save the dates for some great fall children's events we already have lined up: Sherman Alexie (9/19), Eric Litwin (9/23), and Trenton Lee Stewart (9/27). We know the Sherman Alexie and Eric Litwin events will be great, but we've never hosted Trenton Lee Stewart before and could use your help letting people know about the event. Start by inviting everyone you know to our summer kickoff event: The Mysterious Benedict Society party on June 27th (more info below).

Thanks in advance for all your help and have a great summer!

-Jill

Pre-Order the New Harry Potter Book
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II
As I'm sure you've all heard by now, there's going to be a new Harry Potter book! Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts 1 & 2 is a new story that takes place nineteen years after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The book is the script of a new play -- the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage -- that will premiere in London's West End on July 30th. It's based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter, and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child releases on July 31st, but you can pre-order your copy today!

None of the rich folk upstairs at Biltmore Estate know that Serafina exists, though she's lived in the basement for as long as she can remember. But when children at the estate start disappearing, only Serafina knows who the culprit is: a terrifying man in a black cloak who stalks Biltmore's corridors at night. Following her own harrowing escape, Serafina risks everything by joining forces with Braeden Vanderbilt, the young nephew of Biltmore's owners, to uncover the Man in the Black Cloak's true identity before all of the children vanish one by one. Serafina's hunt leads her into the forest that she has been taught to fear, where she discovers a forgotten legacy of magic bound to her own identity. In order to save the children of Biltmore, Serafina must seek the answers that will unlock the puzzle of her past.

Roses
Beauty grew up being feared because of her silvery skin, white, hair, and violet eyes. Her very name is meant to taunt. It's no secret that there's something magical about her, so when a Magical Cleansing starts in her homeland of Sago, Beauty flees to the Hillands. She can't hide forever, though, and eventually the violence follows and finds her again. When her adopted father comes home one night half dead after taking a rose from an enchanted garden, it presents the perfect opportunity to escape, for Beauty to trade her life for one she loves. But in the forest awaits a Beast whose only offer is forever. A fantastical fairy tale retelling set in a magical time and place that adds as much to the story as the characters.
