South Carolina Author Tom Poland to Sign Books at Fiction Addiction

Greenville's Grand Design

South Carolina author Tom Poland will be signing copies of his new book, Greenville's Grand Design (Publishing Resources Group, Inc., hardcover, $49.95), at Fiction Addiction on Saturday, February 27th, from 1-3 pm. This event is free and open to the public.

Greenville's Grand Design is a collection of stories and photos recounting many of the events that have made Greenville, South Carolina -- Grand. It is a tale of pioneers of both business and design; of vision and energy. People who dream and see potential in a polluted river and a forlorn downtown.

And then there are the "doers" -- people who are willing to pour their heart, soul, and dollars into making it happen.

Read their stories and, through gleaming photography, become a witness to their totally grand results.

With an introduction by Greenville Mayor Knox White.

About the author:

Tom PolandTom Poland's journey to authorship evolved from his work as a magazine editor and writer into nature and Southern culture books. He extended his writing into history and books of essays and columns about the South, particularly Georgia and South Carolina.

The first leg of his journey into the world of books began when he earned a Journalism degree from the University of Georgia. His first writing position involved writing scripts for natural history documentaries. He then worked as the managing editor for South Carolina Wildlife. While there, he wrote a feature on tenant homes that caught the eye of an acquisition editor at the University of South Carolina Press. A book contract resulted, and the second leg of his journey to books had begun.

Today he writes columns for newspapers and journals and has twelve books to his credit that range from fiction to natural history, history, photojournalism, and essays and column reflections. His more recent books include Reflections of South Carolina, Vol. II and Classic Carolina Road Trips, as well as a previous volume in this series, Columbia, City of Rivers, Vistas and Dreams.

It's in his Columbia, South Carolina, studio where the magic of writing takes place. There he writes books, columns, and essays supporting his desire that his words "preserve this land, the South, its people, and way of life."

A Georgian by birth, he grew up in Lincolnton, Georgia, and remarked that when he moved to Columbia, "it was like moving to Paris, France."

He writes extensively about Georgia and South Carolina, often referring to the two-state region as "Georgialina." He has twelve books to his credit and three books forthcoming. Visit to see more of his work.
