First Frost First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen
Claire Waverley has started a successful new candy company, but the business of selling them is costing her the everyday joys of her family, and her belief in her own precious gifts. Sydney Waverley longs for a baby, yet the longer she tries, the more her desire becomes an unquenchable thirst, stealing the pleasure out of the life she already has. Sydney's daughter, Bay, has lost her heart to the boy she knows it belongs to...if only he could see it, too. When a mysterious stranger shows up and challenges the very heart of their family, each of them must make choices they have never confronted before. And through it all, the Waverley sisters must search for a way to hold their family together through their troublesome season of change, waiting for that extraordinary event that is First Frost.

Judy Judy by Damien Lewis
In the midst of the living hell of Japanese prisoner of war camps in North Sumatra was a beautiful and regal-looking liver and white English pointer named Judy who was cherished and adored by the Allied servicemen who fought to survive alongside her. Judy's uncanny ability to sense danger, matched with her quick thinking and impossible daring saved countless lives. She shared in both the men's tragedies and joys. It was in recognition of the extraordinary friendship and protection she offered amidst the unforgiving and savage environment of a Japanese prison camp in Indonesia that she gained her formal status as a POW. One of the most heartwarming and inspiring tales you will ever read.

General & Historical Fiction
The Lady in the Van The Lady in the Van and Other Stories by Alan Bennett
Alan Bennett has long been one of the world's most revered humorists, consistently remaining one of literature's most acute observers of Britain and life's many absurdities. In this new collection, drawn from his wide-ranging career, you'll read some of Bennett's finest work, including the title story, the basis for a new feature film starring Maggie Smith. The book also includes the rollicking comic masterpiece "The Laying on of Hands" and the bittersweet "Father! Father! Burning Bright," Bennett's classic tale of the tense relationship between a man and his dying father.

American Blood American Blood by Ben Sanders
Meet Marshall Grade. He is an ex-cop from the NYPD whose undercover-op with the mob went so wrong that he is now in witness protection. Marshall is still haunted by what happened and filled with guilt about the things he had to do during the operation, so when he happens to see a picture of a missing woman who reminds him of someone in his past life, he decides he has to use his skills to help find her. What ensues is a thrilling, action packed cat-and-mouse game as everyone (the bad guys and the good guys) tries to find Marshall at the same time he is destroying everyone and everything in the way of his finding the missing girl. Marshall could be Jack Reacher's brother; he is a rough, tough guy with a troubled past, a strong moral code, and unbelievable skills of self preservation. A must read for fans of Lee Child.

Time of Departure Time of Departure by Douglas Schofield
Wow! What a great book, and what a surprise. I was hooked from the beginning by the story of young state prosecutor Claire Talbot, who is the newly appointed felony division chief. She is tough as nails and has to prove herself daily to many old school cops. It didn't help at all when a newly discovered grave linked back to crimes which occurred 30 years earlier and when a mysterious ex-cop who worked the original cases suddenly appeared to help her. Mid-way through the book, I began to realize that all was not as it seemed, but by that time I was so involved with the mystery and the emerging and compelling love story that I didn't care. Time of Departure was a wonderful read and one I probably would never have picked up if I had known the surprising twist.

After the Crash After the Crash by Michel Bussi
In 1980, a plane crashes in the French alps, and the only survivor is a 3 month old infant who was thrown clear of the wreckage and the resulting fire. Her survival was considered a miracle, but even more unbelievable was the coincidence that there were two female infants the same age aboard the flight. With no identifying marks and no DNA at the time, what ensued was a bitter custody battle by two families -- one very rich and the other very poor. A detective is hired to try and find the truth, but after 18 years totally devoted to the case, he has decided he was a complete failure and is on the verge of committing suicide when he sees a piece of evidence in all of his papers that suddenly makes sense. One of the most brilliantly written crime novels I've read in a while! A real page turner. I read all but the last 60 pages in one sitting. Lots of twists and turns and a huge build-up finally come together in a surprising ending. A very good book!

Not If I See You First Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstrom
Parker is blind and has been for years. She copes by not caring what anyone thinks of her -- as long as they follow The Rules, a set of what she considers common sense guidelines for dealing with someone who's blind. Rules she enforces even more since her best friend Scott broke her heart two and a half years ago. But when Scott shows back up, Parker starts to realize that maybe she doesn't know everything she thought she did. Lindstrom has a way of getting you into his character's head, making you see things from her perspective that you wouldn't otherwise be able to. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
