Michael Livingston's The Shards of Heaven (Tor, hardcover, $25.99) reveals the hidden magic behind the history we know -- Julius Caesar, Marc Antony and Cleopatra, the Trident of Poseidon, the Staff of Moses -- and commences a war greater than any mere mortal battle.
An award-winning writer and professor, Michael holds degrees in History, Medieval Studies, and English. The Shards of Heaven is the first in a trilogy of historical fantasy novels. In his academic life, he teaches at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, specializing in the Middle Ages.
More Americans were killed during the years 1861-1865 than any other date in history. Men shattered, women lost, families broken. In Shades of Blue & Gray (Prime, paperback, $15.95), editor Steve Berman and contributing author Christopher M. Cevasco offer readers tales of the supernatural. Yank. Rebel. Both finding themselves at odds in flesh and spirit.
Christopher writes fiction inspired by history, and his stories have appeared in numerous publications, including the Prime Books anthologies Shades of Blue & Gray: Ghosts of the Civil War and Zombies: Shambling Through the Ages. Chris lives in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with his wife and their two children.
In The Conquering Dark (Del Rey, paperback, $7.99), the newest book in Clay and Susan Griffith's Crown & Key historical fantasy series, the Crown & Key Society face their most terrifying villain yet: Gaios, a deranged demigod with the power to destroy Britain -- and to do so, they have to restore their leader's lost magical powers before the world is left in ruins.
Clay and Susan met at a bookstore over a copy of The Uncanny X-Men #201. They are now married and have written together for nearly two decades. In addition to the Vampire Empire series and the Crown & Key series, they have written numerous short stories for anthologies, and have scripted comics and written scripts for the television/web series Monster Creature Feature. Susan is a native of upstate New York and a graduate of SUNY-Albany with a degree in English. Clay is from North Carolina and has a master's degree in African History from NC State University.
