South Carolina Children's Authors Melinda Long & Kate Salley Palmer to Sign Books at Fiction Addiction

Greenville picture book author Melinda Long will be signing copies of her South Carolina-themed Christmas book, The Twelve Days of Christmas in South Carolina (Sterling, hardcover, $12.95), along with South Carolina author and illustrator Kate Salley Palmer, who will be signing copies of her new non-partisan coloring book, 2016 Race for the White House (Warbranch, paperback, $14.95), at Fiction Addiction on Saturday, December 12th, from 11am-Noon. This event is free and open to the public.

The Twelve Days of Christmas in South Carolina

In Melinda Long's South Carolina-themed Christmas book, rainbow-painted houses, yummy shrimp stew, war heroes, prowling pirates, kudzu monsters, leaping dolphins...and a wren in a palmetto tree: that's a South Carolina Christmas, and Laura is experiencing it all for the first time! Kids will love exploring this magical Southern state with her.

2016 Race for the White HouseKate Salley Palmer's new non-partisan coloring book contains caricatures of 22 candidates for the 2016 presidential race, from both major parties, plus a couple of surprises. Each candidate page is in temptingly colorable cartoon form and pictures something that typifies each of the candidates. On the facing pages are short bios of the candidates in resume form -- quite informative and educational.

About the authors:

Melinda LongMelinda Long began her writing career on a rainy day when she was six. Her mother, tired of hearing how bored Melinda was, told her to write a story about Yogi Bear and his friends. She even gave Melinda a typewriter to use. It was so much fun, Melinda just kept writing. Now it's one of her favorite things to do. Melinda lives in South Carolina not far from two pirate hangouts. She enjoys reading, acting, and visiting schools to talk to kids about writing. In addition to The Twelve Days of Christmas in South Carolina, Melinda is also the author of the bestselling picture books How I Became a Pirate and Pirates Don't Change Diapers.

Kate Salley PalmerKate Salley Palmer is an award-winning nationally syndicated political cartoonist, author, and illustrator of many books, including her first coloring book, 2016 Race for the White House, and Christmas book, I Know Santa Very Well. Simon & Schuster published her first two picture books, A Gracious Plenty and How Many Feet in the Bed. Kate has also illustrated books for Boyds Mills Press (Octopus Hug, Bear Hug, and Upstairs) and Albert Whitman Company (Night of the Five Aunties).

Kate and her husband, Jim Palmer, a retired Clemson professor, started Warbranch Press, Inc., in 1998. Their first book was a soft cover edition of A Gracious Plenty, a family story about Kate's great aunt May Zeigler. Then the Palmers published The Pink House -- a story about the Salley family's annual trip to Edisto Beach, SC.

Warbranch Press published The Little Chairs in 1999. The story is based on true events concerning Kate's mother and father. Whenever Kate reads the story during her school visits, it gets enthusiastic and spontaneous applause from children and teachers.

In 2005, Kate began to write non-fiction history picture books, such as Palmetto: Symbol of Courage, Francis Marion and the Legend of the Swamp Fox, Almost Invisible: Black Patriots of the American Revolution, and First South Carolinians.
