Thanks so much for helping us spread the word last month about our Ben Carson and Nicholas Sparks events. We had over 300 people at the store for Carson (despite the rain) and over 700 for Sparks. We still have signed books available from both authors if you need any for Christmas gifts!
If you are a member of our reward program and are cleaning out your house in preparation for holiday houseguests, please go ahead and bring us your trade-ins before the end of the year as we are going to stop issuing trade credit for used books after 12/31/15. We will still accept used books if you wish to donate them to us and any trade credit you've been issued will remain valid.
The big fall releases are starting to arrive and we have holiday catalogs with great gift ideas so beat the rush and start your holiday shopping early so we can help you with personalized recommendations!

The Witches by Stacy Schiff
It began in 1692, over an exceptionally raw Massachusetts winter, when a minister's daughter began to scream and convulse. It ended less than a year later, but not before 19 men and women had been hanged and an elderly man crushed to death. The panic spread quickly, involving the most educated men and prominent politicians in the colony. Neighbors accused neighbors, parents and children each other. Aside from suffrage, the Salem Witch Trials represent the only moment when women played the central role in American history. In curious ways, the trials would shape the future republic.

The Essential Scratch & Sniff Guide to Becoming a Whiskey Know-It-All by Richard Betts
In this witty kid-style book on an adult topic, Richard Betts boils down his know-how into twenty pages, cooling our "brown-sweat" anxieties and dividing whiskey into three simple categories: Grain, Wood, and Place. While most whiskey tomes are about as fun as a chemistry lesson, Betts makes the learning slide down easy, reassuring us that this exalted spirit is just distilled beer and, through a nasal romp, helping us figure out which kinds we love best. Humorous illustrations and scratch-and-sniff scents (vanilla, sandalwood, grass, and more) help would-be connoisseurs learn their personal preferences. Language label and Map to Your Desires included.

The Crossing by Michael Connelly
Though it goes against all his instincts, retired detective Harry Bosch reluctantly takes a case from his half-brother, defense attorney Mickey Haller. A woman has been brutally murdered in her bed, and all evidence points to Haller's client, a former gang member turned family man, but Mickey is sure it's a setup. The prosecution's file just has too many holes and Bosch has to find out for himself: if Haller's client didn't do it, then who did? With the secret help of his former LAPD partner Lucy Soto, Harry starts digging. Soon his investigation leads him inside the police department, where he realizes that the killer he's been tracking has also been tracking him.

Now Bosch and rookie Detective Lucia Soto are tasked with solving what turns out to be a highly charged, politically sensitive case. Beginning with the bullet that's been lodged for years in the victim's spine, they must pull new leads from years-old information, which soon reveal that this shooting may have been anything but random.
