Greenville Children's Authors Frederick Baus & Jeffrey J. Lefko to Sign Books at Fiction Addiction on Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day (12/5/15)

On Saturday, December 5th, from 11am-1pm at Fiction Addiction, Greenville children's author Frederick Baus (accompanied by Roper the Ogre!) will read and sign his holiday picture book, Oh, Those Holiday Lights! (United Writers Press, paperback, $12.95), an imaginative account of the inspiration for the Roper Mountain Holiday Lights, along with Jeffrey J. Lefko, reading and signing Solomon Squirrel's Amazing Chanukah Adventure (CreateSpace, paperback, $9.49), which shows readers how differen religions and cultures can interact with each other and accept each other for their own traditions and customs. This free event is a great way to celebrate Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day!

Oh, Thouse Holiday LightsRoper the Ogre lived on a mountain in Greenville a long time ago. No matter how hard he tries to be friendly, everyone is scared of him. To spite the people of Greenville, Roper decides to steal the candles that make everyone else so happy during the holidays. The mayor, the council, and especially all of the children are sad, until one of the children has an idea -- each of the children will choose a gift to give to Roper, and maybe the ogre will give their lights back! This rhyming story gives an imaginative account of the inspiration for the Roper Mountain Holiday Lights, a Greenville, South Carolina, holiday tradition.

The author will be donating net proceeds from the sale of this book to Holiday Lights, Inc., a nonprofit company that oversees the annual Roper Mountain Holiday Lights event.

Solomon Squirrel's Amazing Chanukah AdventureSolomon Squirrel's Amazing Chaunkah Adventure is the story of Solomon Squirrel and his family, who celebrate the Chaunkah holiday every year, but this year is going to turn out to be the most special of them all. What happens to Solomon and his family this holiday season make for the most amazing adventure of their lives. Through some twists and turns, the Solomon Squirrel family realize some wonderful things about themselves and about the world they live in. This book is meant to appeal to readers as a way to explain how different religions and cultures can interact with each other and accept each other for their own traditions and customs. The holiday season is a relevant time for this type of discovery and discussion.

About the authors:

Dr. Frederick (Fred) Baus has a 45-year career in the administration of non-profit, higher education associations -- including the presidency of the University Center of Greenville. He and his wife, Cathy, live in Simpsonville, SC. After his retirement in 2013, Fred began writing poetry for children. In December 2013, while waiting in line on a trip to Roper Mountain Holiday Lights with his wife and grandsons, one of the boys asked, "So where are the lights?" The muses struck, and Oh, Those Holiday Lights! is the result. In talking about the book, Baus notes, "The themes of caring and sharing reflect the spirit of Greenville, the underlying message of the Holiday Lights project, and a lesson we could all do well to remember throughout the year."

Jeffrey J. Lefko has combined a professional healthcare management career with an avocation for writing children's stories for his nine grandchildren. Two of those stories have already been shared with other children in book form: Solomon Squirrel's Amazing Chanukah Adventure and Solomon Squirrel's Amazing Washington, D.C. Adventure. Jeff lives and works in Greenville, SC.

If you cannot make the event, you can reserve a personalized copy of the author's book by contacting Fiction Addiction in advance at 864-675-0540 or at [email protected].
