Please help us spread the word and make these three big events a success: On September 25th, Eric Litwin will give a free performance at University Center; on October 10th, Dr. Ben Carson will be at Fiction Addiction; and on October 17th, we will bring bestselling historian S.C. Gwynne to the Upcountry History Museum for a free talk on Stonewall Jackson.
I know many of you are wondering whether we will also be hosting Nicholas Sparks this year. The last I heard from his publisher we are still in the running but Mr. Sparks hasn't yet decided how big of a tour, if any, he wants to do. As soon as we know anything, we'll keep you posted.
Please note that Fiction Addiction will be closed September 7th for Labor Day and will close at 1pm on Thursday, September 17th. Melissa and I will be at a trade show 9/17 through 9/19 so please be patient with Ike who will be on his own those days.

Purity by Jonathan Franzen
Pip Tyler knows that her real name is Purity, that she's saddled with $130,000 in student debt, that she's squatting with anarchists in Oakland, and that her relationship with her mother is hazardous, but that's all. A glancing encounter with a German peace activist leads Pip to an internship in South America with The Sunlight Project, an organization that traffics in all the secrets of the world. TSP is the brainchild of Andreas Wolf, a charismatic provocateur who rose to fame in the chaos following the fall of the Berlin Wall. Now on the lam in Bolivia, Andreas is drawn to Pip for reasons she doesn't understand, and the intensity of her response to him upends her conventional ideas of right and wrong.
