Independent Bookstore Day
|
Join us on May 2nd, 2015 to celebrate the first-ever Independent Bookstore Day (#bookstoreday) and Fiction Addiction's 14th anniversary! We will be hosting an all-day party: morning, noon, and night.
Be lined up at the door at 10am for the first chance at limited-edition, collectible merchandise such as a signed Captain Underpants print, a broadside from Stephen King's forthcoming book Finders Keepers, a Huck Finn literary map, salty and sweet literary tea towel sets, and more! (Special merchandise will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and will not be sold online.) We will be serving Krispy Kreme donuts to the first 3 dozen folks through the door.
Bring the family at 1pm for our Book Scouts event aimed at kids ages 8-12. We will be serving birthday cake and perhaps some Puerto Rican-themed refreshments inspired by our featured book, Blackbird Fly by Erin Entrada Kelly.
From 4-6pm, celebrate the launch of the magnificent essay collection, The World Is on Fire: Scrap, Treasure and Songs of Apocalypse (paperback, $16.00) by the Upstate's own Joni Tevis. Adult refreshments will be served.
Bring your family, your bookclub, or anyone who likes a good party!
(And in the mean time, stop by and pick up one of our Independent Bookstore Day tote bags, with artwork by Roz Chast, only $15.95 each!)

A sign with his own name on it leads Horace F. Andrews underground to a hidden warehouse full of mysterious objects. When he finds the Box of Promises in the curio shop, he quickly discovers that ordinary-looking objects can hold extraordinary power. From the enormous, sinister man shadowing him to the gradual mastery of his newfound abilities to his encounters with Chloe, Horace follows a path that puts the pair in the middle of a centuries-old conflict between two warring factions in which every decision they make could have disastrous consequences.

The Honest Truth is a touching read about a boy who loves his dog, his best friend Jessie, taking pictures with his grandfather's old-fashioned camera, and writing haiku. But when Mark learns some devastating news he heads out on a reckless attempt to climb Mt. Rainier on his own. For Mark to survive, he will need a miracle (or maybe two).

I love this Newbery Honor-winning tale of Miri, a girl who has an unexpected chance to compete against the other girls in her small village to become a princess and marry the king. Winning the contest could give her everything she ever wanted -- but it would mean leaving her home and family behind. Princess Academy was originally written 10 years ago, but Shannon has since turned her charming tale into a wonderful trilogy. If you missed it when it first released, dive in to this 10th anniversary edition.
