Jack of Spies
On the eve of World War I, amateur British spy Jack McColl barely survives realistic and historically accurate adventures in obscure but riveting situations around the globe: militaristic Germans and a beautiful American suffragette in China, restive freedom-lovers from India and Ireland in San Francisco, striking silk workers in Paterson, NJ, and armed revolutionaries in Tampico, Mexico.

Hangman Suspense filled novel with an extremely interesting female lead detective. With a father who was a legend in the department and casts a long shadow, Abbie must fight not only criminals but the old guard. Abbie has to decide if justice is worth any cost, and risk her integrity by tapping into a less than savory group called the Network who can bypass many obstacles.

Ballantine Books - Release Date: 5/13/14 - Format: Hardcover - Price: $26.00

Mrs. Hemingway A compelling story of the women who loved Ernest Hemingway and a testimony to the magnetic personality of the writer. The lifestyle of the gilded age is hard to imagine, as are the depths of depression that must have tortured Hemingway throughout his life. This book does a marvelous job of describing the very different women Hemingway loved. I found the story of the wives fascinating.

The Art of Arranging Flowers This is a heart-warming book about relationships, hope, love, and the power of friendship. Characters are well developed, and you are quickly invested in their story. An excellent book club selection.

The Pilot and the Little Prince The Pilot and the Little Prince by Peter Sis
The Little Prince is one of my all-time favorite children's books, and Sis does a beautiful job as author and illustrator of this biographical picture book of its author, Antoine de Saint-Exupery. This title works perfectly for both teachers and parents.

A Southern Girl A Southern Girl by John Warley
Though a trial lawyer, Charleston-bred Coleman Carter despises confrontation. When his wife announces in 1979 that she wishes to adopt a Korean baby girl to complete their family of two sons, Coleman is torn between his love for his wife and the effect he fears the adoption will have on his parents and Southern society as a whole. But as Coleman grows to love Allie, he finds he will do anything for his little girl, even take on that bastion of Charleston society, the St. Simeon. This powerful, modern Southern novel is the first offering from Pat Conroy's new StoryRiver imprint.

Lainey is one of the most popular girls in school, dating one of the most popular boys. Then her boyfriend dumps her...in front of everyone. So she decides to use the tactics from Sun Tzu's The Art of War to win back Jason. To that end, she recruits her co-worker Micah, not at all her usual popular type, to pose as her fake boyfriend to make Jason jealous. But after a few fake dates, Lainey's no longer sure whether she wants to be who she was when she was dating Jason, or really who she is at all any more. A good summer read for the teen romantic.

Goodnight June
The fast-paced life of June Anderson is abruptly interrupted when she inherits a children's book store from her great-aunt Ruby. June discovers letters between her great aunt and Margaret Wise Brown, and from there, June follows a trail that reveals Ruby's lifelong secrets and leads her into life-changing realizations as well. Sarah Jio offers an imaginative speculative story about the origins of every child's favorite bedtime story, Goodnight Moon. I especially enjoyed the interactions and wisdom within the exchanged letters. It is a tender, sweet book, perfect for when you need an inspiring, uplifting story.

And Then I Found You
Emotionally powered by true-life events in her own family, And Then I Found You is Patti Callahan Henry's unforgettable story of star-crossed lovers and the daughter they gave up for adoption and then found again. Patti has written the perfect book club book -- a slim, fast read with deep impact and plenty to discuss.

Recommended in hardcover by Jill.

St. Martin's Griffin - Release Date: 5/20/14 - Price: $14.99

The Beekeeper's Apprentice
It's the 20th anniversary of one of my favorite mystery novels! The beekeeper of the title is, of course, Sherlock Holmes, and his apprentice is a young American orphan -- Mary Russell -- now living with her aunt in England. Mary stumbles across the older, retired Sherlock while walking the Downs and the two have an epic verbal confrontation that intrigues Sherlock into taking her under his wing. If you fall in love with this series as I did, you'll have lots do devour as the author is up to book #13.

Recommended by Jill.

Picador - Release Date: 5/27/14 - Price: $16.00

The Rithmatist
Joel desperately wants to be a Rithmatist -- part of a select order that can bring chalk drawings to life to battle wild chalkings and keep the human race safe. But since he's not, Joel spends his time learning everything he can about Rithmatics and befriends an outcast professor and another student, who end up helping him in his own battle. This well-plotted story is perfect for all sorts of readers -- the math geek, the fantasy lover, and the sucker for happy endings. It grabbed me from the very beginning and ended with a goofy grin on my face, despite my strong desire for a sequel.

Augustine Literacy Project
This summer, you have an opportunity to become a reading tutor and improve the life of an underprivileged child. The Upstate SC Chapter of the Augustine Literacy Project provides free, one-on-one tutoring at schools across the Upstate for struggling readers who cannot otherwise afford private tutors. There will be a tutor training session from July 14th-25th in downtown Greenville for interested volunteers.

Fiction Addiction is Open on Sundays!
To help meet your book-buying needs in 2014, we have decided to open the store on Sundays from Noon-4:00pm. Stop by and say hi to Cynthia and grab a book, perfect for passing time on those lazy Sunday afternoons!

Two Ways to Earn FREE Books!
Spend $50 in one transaction on in-stock merchandise (event tickets excluded), and pick a free "advance reading copy" from our selection!

Or volunteer and help us at the store! Our volunteers receive a free "advance reading copy" for every three hours worked, and a 20% discount on all merchandise. If you're interested in volunteering at Fiction Addiction, please email Jill at info@fiction-addiction.com or call 864-675-0540.

Thanks for your continued patronage!

Sincerely,
