Natchez Burning
Greg Iles is an amazing story teller, and his eagerly anticipated new novel proves this beyond a doubt. Natchez Burning is the first in an epic trilogy which starts in 1964 during the heated days of civil rights action in Natchez and the nearby areas of Louisiana. The past comes back with a vengeance as Penn Cage is forced to find out the long hidden truths about what happened during this turbulent time in order to defend his father, the beloved Dr. Cage, from a murder charge. We are treated to a fascinating history of corruption and evil, which may still be going on in present time. We are tantalized with hints of conspiracies on a national level. But most of all, we are shown how far family will go to protect family.

Rebekah's quest for the truth and her anger at the cover-ups she believed were happening, as well as her unresolved anger toward her mother, provide for a riveting story about the world of journalism and the influence a powerful voting bloc can have on criminal investigations.

Until You're Mine Until You're Mine hooked me right away and kept me until the very surprising and unexpected end. From the creepy prologue and the narratives of Claudia and Zoe, who are both obviously damaged souls, the signs abound that nothing is going to be as it seems. The book is told from the perspective of Claudia, heavily pregnant with her first child and stepmother to 4-year-old twin boys; Zoe, the nanny hired by Claudia who from the beginning lets us know that she has dark secrets; and Lorraine; a police detective who with her husband is working the case of attacked pregnant women. Their back stories just add to the building suspense in this tense and cunning psychological thriller.

Pilgrimage through Loss I was fortunate enough to hear Linda Hunt speak and was captured by her story and her strength. While the book is written as a response to the loss of her daughter, the insights are valid for any loss. This is not a "how to" book for overcoming grief, but a powerful look at the many different ways we grieve and how to accept all of them. The pilgrimage does not seek to diminish loss, but to find a path to finding appreciation of current moments. Not based completely on her own experience, Linda has interviewed thirty families and told of their journeys in addition to her own. A valuable resource for caregivers and families experiencing loss, and a must have for Stephen Ministers.

For anyone who sees something to be desired in traditional fairy tales with formulaic princesses. Princess Sue longs for her very own Prince Charming and has read all the books on how to do it. A prince finally comes for her, but Sue's relief is short-lived as she finds out that he expects her to sit prettily in her tower and amuse herself with fancy dresses. So when Sue joins forces with a dragon, proving herself the Worst Princess, she learns that it's ok to be herself, even if it's not what's expected of her.

This Is a Moose
"This is a Moose - take one!" It takes more than one take for the director to get his movie, though, because this moose wants to be an astronaut...but moose can't be astronauts! Or lacrosse goalies for that matter, and giraffes certainly can't be doctors. This hilarious picture book will have parents and kids laughing to see what un-animal-like activities the animals on set are going to get up to next, while affirming that you can be whatever you want to be, regardless of what a duck director thinks.

The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap
The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap is an easygoing, heartwarming memoir. Wendy Welch and her husband fulfilled their dream by opening a used bookstore, Tales of the Lonesome Pine Used Books in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. They quickly discovered that a bookstore is many things to many people, and involved much more than just selling books. Their journey began as being viewed as outsiders and ended up as much loved neighbors, with their shop being a hub for the community. No matter which side of the bookstore counter you have found yourself on, you will love this book.

Looking for Me
Teddi Overman knows from the age of 10 that she wants to work with furniture, but her journey from a farm near Kentucky's Red River Gorge to proprietor of a tiny Charleston antique shop is quite a trip. This is such a wonderful book about family relationships and how complete and total strangers can change the course of your life. Looking for Me, told with Beth Hoffman's trademark blend of compassion and optimism, will touch any reader who has ever followed a dream, disappointed a parent, or said a final goodbye to their childhood home.
