Book Signing for South Carolina Author Mindy Friddle and Her Dog, Otto
Greenville, SC, October 15, 2012 - South Carolina author Mindy Friddle and her dog, Otto, will be signing copies of Literary Dogs & Their South Carolina Writers (Hub City Press, paperback, $19.95), a collection of essays about dogs by South Carolina writers that includes her story about her beloved dog, Otto. The event will be held at The Barkery Bistro's new location (2123 B Augusta St.) on Saturday, November 10th, from 11am-2pm. Bring your canine companions with you to meet Otto and the Barkery's dogs, Bentley and Duncan, and try their delicious handmade dog treats. Books will be provided by Fiction Addiction.
In Literary Dogs & Their South Carolina Writers, twenty-five of the Palmetto State's most beloved authors introduce you to their most memorable dogs. There is Padgett Powell's "Ode to Spode," Josephine Humphreys' paean to a poodle, and Roger Pinckney's Daufuskie Dog-ageddon. Meet Marshall Chapman's Impy, Mindy Friddle's Otto, Beth Webb Hart's Bo Peep, and more.
Dorothea Benton Frank's dog Henry teaches her about self-righteous indignation every time she leaves on a book tour. Ron Rash learns to appreciate his misanthropic mutt Pepper after he bites his daughter's suitor. For Tommy Hays, the dog is something not even a psychic can separate from the family. For some writers, such as Mary Alice Monroe, a Bermese Mountain dog arrives via Swiss Air. For George Singleton, they just wander into his Pickens County yard. From bird dogs to bad dogs, wild dogs to cafe dogs, get to know these canines and their literary companions. Literary Dogs & Their South Carolina Writers makes a wonderful holiday gift for every dog lover you know, so get a jump on your holiday shopping while helping out a worthy cause! Fiction Addiction and Hub City Press will both be donating a portion of the event proceeds to The Greenville Humane Society.
Mindy Friddle's first novel, The Garden Angel, a SIBA bestseller, was selected for Barnes & Noble's Discover Great New Writers program in 2004, and was a National Public Radio Morning Edition summer reading pick. Mindy was awarded a 2008-2009 Individual Artist Fellowship in Prose from the South Carolina Arts Commission and has twice won the South Carolina Fiction Prize. She was a name a Walter E. Dakin Fellow in Fiction at the Sewanee Writers' Conference in Sewanee, Tennessee. She graduated from Furman University and earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Warren Wilson.
