Forecasters Dub Hurricane Sandy as "Frankenstorm"

Crawford & Company Appraisers and Adjusters are Ready to Respond

The National Weather Service is closely monitoring Hurricane Sandy which has already left 21 dead in its wake across Haiti, Jamaica and Cuba.  Late Thursday, Sandy weakened to a Category 1 storm, but a combination of weather conditions threaten to turn it into a disaster for the Northeastern United States. Residents are concerned about its potential intensity as landfall predictions show the storm striking somewhere between Washington, D.C. and Boston, affecting some of the most densely populated areas of the country.

Meteorologists predict Sandy may join a winter storm front currently over land, pummeling the Atlantic Coast by Halloween.  From Sunday through Wednesday, winds of hurricane force are expected to lash exposed areas of the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic states, leading to potentially serious coastal erosion and coastal flooding, the weather service forecasts.  The projected force of the monster storm could produce massive rainfall and strong winds fueling estimates up to $1 billion in damages, even affecting parts of the Midwest.
