Question: "I need help. I'm tired of the "hunt and peck" method of typing. Can you help me?"
Answer: I can't tell you how often I'm thankful that I was forced to take typing way back in Junior High School. When I give one-on-one computer lessons, one source of frustration I often see in my student is his or her inability to type.
If you never took typing or you're "rusty," there is help available. Here are three typing programs that, if you take the time to really use them, will have you typing well in no time. The first is totally free and, although it was originally created for Windows 95 & 98 and XP, it works perfectly in Vista and Win 7. The other two programs will cost you money but what real educational exercise is ever really free? Invest in yourself and get better at using your computer because you will know how to type!
Free: Bruce's Unusual Typing Wizard - You can download it
HERE.
A word of warning: This download uses CNet downloader which, if you aren't paying attention and you don't remove the checkmarks and decline the offers, will install two extra programs which you probably don't want and shouldn't install. Be careful!
$30: TypingMaster Pro Typing Tutor - You can download it
HERE. You can try this software before you purchase it but the trial is limited to 2 lessons with some features disabled. Oh, and just like in the free software above, watch out for the CNet Downloader and the installation of unwanted programs.
$30: Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing - You can download it
HERE. The "Queen" of typing software, you can purchase this software on the page we've provided. You won't go wrong with this program!
If you really want to be able to use the computer as a tool, you should invest the time (and maybe money) to learn how to type. If you know how to type already, that's great! Why not share this email with a friend who could use this information?
