From the PrincipalPrincipal

Dear La Entrada Community,

It is hard to believe that 2015 is coming to an end. On behalf of the entire staff here at La Entrada, we would like to wish you all a very happy and restful winter break. Whether or not you are celebrating holidays, we hope that you find time to enjoy your families and friends.

Some thoughts as we have time off from school: our children will continue to want to maintain their relationships with their peers over break and many will resort to social media. I am providing some resources for you and your children on internet safety and digital citizenship.
Internet Safety Resources
Holiday Fair:  Thank you to all the volunteers who made this year's Holiday Workshop a great success! We hope you and your children enjoyed the event.  It is a challenge to have projects that cross 5 grade levels, so a special thank you goes out to the differentiation of projects geared specifically for the older students.  Moms, dads, and grandparents were on hand to help the children with their creations. This event is a perfect example of the community we have.

9th Grade Open Enrollment for the Sequoia Union High School District 2016-17 year: The Board of Trustees desires to provide enrollment options that meet the diverse needs and interests of the district's students. Ninth Grade Open Enrollment is a period of time when an incoming 9th grade student may request a high school other than their assigned home school to attend. You must complete an online Open Enrollment Transfer Application to be eligible.
  • Thursday, October 1, 2015 - Open Enrollment opens at 12:00 p.m.
  • Friday, February 19, 2016 - Open Enrollment closes at 4:00 p.m. There are no late exceptions.
You do not need to complete an Open Enrollment Transfer Application if you want your child to attend their assigned home school. If your child chooses to attend any other Sequoia Union High School District school, you will need to complete a 9th Grade Open Enrollment Student Transfer Request form.

If you have questions or need additional information, please check out the Sequoia Union High School Districts website.

Warmly,
Shannon Potts

Toys for Tots Drive
Throughout the weeks of December 7-18th, La Entrada is helping to support our local firefighters' Toys for Tots program. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy during the holidays, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. We are asking families to bring in an unwrapped toy for boys and girls of all ages. You can drop off your gift before school throughout the week. If you have any questions or concerns, please email or visit Mrs. Rianda in room 20, or contact Sophia B., ASB Community Service Coordinator.

We are collecting orders for the La Entrada Yearbook & accepting Student Activity Donations NOW.

Each student was given an order form last week. You may fill in the order form and return it with a check to the front office or new this year: you can purchase the items with a credit card at our new online store.

Yearbook - $40 per copy

Student Activities ContributionSuggested Contribution: $40 per student
Explanation: In years past, students participated in a magazine sale fundraiser as a means of raising money for student activities. We typically raised around $25,000 each year.  This money supports all school activities from dances to clubs, to assemblies/special events, etc.  The money is allocated by the student council.  While the magazine sale was a valuable fundraiser that brought in quite a bit of money to support our students, it also had drawbacks (taking time from the classroom, dealing with prizes, not to mention the pressure students put on families and neighbors to get the sales).  We are, therefore, no longer participating in the magazine sale. However, we still need to raise money to support our student activities. To do that, we are asking for the above mentioned contribution.  While that is a suggested amount, any amount is helpful.
