Volunteers needed for Hot Lunch

Help out with one of the best volunteer jobs in the school!   Serving hot lunch not only helps the school, but gives you a chance to see your child and get to know the other students and volunteers.  Hot Lunch shifts last about 40 minutes and you can sign up to help weekly, every other week, once a month or as an on-call sub.  Our greatest need is volunteers for the 4th/5th lunch on Thursdays.

Click here for more information about shift times and to sign up.  For questions about volunteering for hot lunch, please contact Stacy Molano or Stacy May.

LA ENTRADA BACK TO SCHOOL FAMILY PICNIC
Thursday, September 10,
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

In the keeping with our school's theme this year, "fostering and valuing kind, positive and respectful relationships" that our Superintendent outlined for us at the General PTA meeting, we invite you to share your positive energy with new and returning students at the Family Picnic this Thursday from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Our school has grown to over 800 students so this is a great opportunity to extend a LA ENTRADA WELCOME to new families and to get to know returning families that might be new to you!

There is no better opportunity than the family picnic to expand your social network and welcome new families and their children into your life.  We look forward to seeing you at the picnic on Thursday, September 10 at 5:30 p.m.  Ordering has been extended to Tuesday at 9:00 p.m.  Place your dinner order here or bring dinner from home!   Don't forget there is no opportunity to purchase food at the event unlike past years.

In addition, the 8th Grade Families will be selling baked goods at a Bake Sale along with our sweet treat vendor!

The Apple for the Classroom program is a way for parents to support their children's teachers directly.  All the teachers and specialists at La Entrada have been invited to create a "wish list" of items that would help to further enrich their classrooms.  Wishes may include classroom supplies, gift cards, subscriptions, or donations toward a special activity or field trip.

To view the lists, please visit our website.

Once at the site, select the list you want to view. Teachers' lists are divided into two sections, so you can choose to bring an item directly to the classroom or you can choose to make a donation via PayPal.

Thank you for supporting our teachers and enriching your children's experience at La Entrada.

Please submit your box top coupons and keep collecting more every week!

If you have not done so, please sign up for the Box Tops email. Sign up by September 30th and earn 5 Bonus Box Tops for our school!

Thank you so much for your continued support!!

Don't forget that your everyday online purchases can also help our school. Please visit the box top website and designate La Entrada as the school you wish to support. Then, every time you shop online, as long as you enter through the Box Tops web page, a percentage of your purchase will be credited to our school. Please check for the various participating products. Every coupon is valuable and worth 10 cents. Submit your box tops in a small ziplock bag with your child's full name and core teacher name to the school office. There will be a cereal box there for collection. Please do not submit the expired ones.

Have friends, grandparents, families, office staff, etc. collect Box Tops and bring them in to raise money for our school. We will keep tallying the coupons every week, so please send them as you collect. LE Teachers and staff are also welcome to participate.

Our PTA proudly supports La Entrada's Project Cornerstone activities, including the ABC Reader volunteer program, Expect Respect Middle School Club, Peer Tutoring Program and Take it Personally Parent Education class series.

Our ABC Reader Program is now in its fourth year at La Entrada.  Parent Volunteers visit a 4th or 5th grade classroom once a month, and read-aloud a picture book, focusing on important character traits.  Volunteers meet monthly for a training session on the upcoming picture book, and learn about fun activities to do with the class following the read-aloud.  If you would like to volunteer to be an ABC Reader in your child's 4th or 5th grade classroom, please email your child's teacher. This year's ABC Lead Parent Volunteer is Martha Enthoven, mother of Isabelle Stid. Interested volunteers may email Martha directly to volunteer for this important program.

If you would like to volunteer for the 6th-8th grade Expect Respect Club, please contact Kim Witthaus. This club focuses on improving campus climate through student activities throughout the year.

Anyone wishing to support our Peer Tutoring Program, please email Vivian Tavernakis. This program supports students through after-school tutoring in both writing and mathematics for one or two days a week, depending on the number of volunteer tutors.  Tutors of all ages are welcome so share this volunteer opportunity with older siblings, grandparents and other parents interested in building meaningful connections with our youth.

Take-it-Personally (T.I.P.) parenting classes will be advertised soon. T.I.P. is a series of six ninety-minute sessions facilitated by a trained Project Cornerstone leader on a variety of parenting topics. The fee is nominal, and includes a workbook.  Stay tuned for more information on T.I.P classes!

For further information about Project Cornerstone, please visit their website or speak with Mrs. Dineen when next on campus.

La Entrada's first Middle School Dance is being rescheduled.  Please note that there will NOT be a Middle School Dance this coming September 18, 2015. Our first Middle School Dance will be in October. Stay tuned for the new date.

M-A PARENT EDUCATION SERIES and KEPLER'S BOOKS PRESENT:
"Brainstorm: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain" - An evening with Dr. Daniel J. Siegel

Wednesday, September 16
Event starts at 7:30 pm - Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
M-A Performing Arts Center (PAC)

Register to attend here

The Peninsula Arts & Letters and Kepler's Books is pleased to bring internationally acclaimed author and UCLA psychiatrist Dr. Daniel Siegel to the M-A Performing Arts Center (PAC) to present his new work:Brainstorm: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain.

This special evening is presented in partnership with the M-A Parent Education Series and Menlo-Atherton High School.

Dr. Siegel will share the exciting neuroscience behind the heightened social, emotional and creative energy that drives teen behavior showing parents how to turn one of the most challenging developmental periods in their children's lives into one of the most rewarding. Between the ages of 12 to 24, the brain changes in important and, at times, challenging ways. In "Brainstorm," Dr. Siegel dispels a number of commonly held myths about adolescent behavior and demonstrates that during these years children learn vital skills, such as how to leave home and enter the larger world, connect deeply with others, and safely experiment and take risks.

Drawing on important new research in the field of interpersonal neurobiology, Siegel explores exciting ways in which understanding how the brain functions can improve the lives of adolescents, making their relationships more fulfilling and less lonely and distressing on both sides of the generational divide.

Event is open to parents, students, faculty/staff, and community members.

Kepler's Books will offer sales of Brainstorm: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain.
