From the Principal's Office

Dear Parents,

Washington DC:  The 8th grade Washington DC trip is planned, and we are taking sign ups through the Apple Website.   Registration is easy: Go to www.AppleStudentTours.com and click on the "REGISTER FOR A TOUR" button. Enter your Tour Code:  45DT54 and click CONTINUE where you will enter your traveler's information and click PROCEED TO PAYMENT. You will then be taken to the payment page where you will need to submit a $250 non-refundable deposit via credit card in order to complete your registration. If you are not able to register online or wish to pay your deposit by check, please call our office at (619) 299-9686 for assistance.   We have extended the registration window to October 13th

Shadowing:  This is the time where many of you will be  researching and shadowing schools for 2015-16.  We do not have all the information about all the options but are willing to support your efforts with the information we do have. Kim Witthaus, Academic Counselor for grades 4th, 5th and 8th, will be collecting information passed on to us from local high schools and make that available to parents and students.  Please contact her at 854-3962 ext 218 if you have questions.

Field Update:  A plan is in place to begin restoration work on the field within the next two to three weeks, once the lunch area construction is complete. Our facilities team is preparing to begin work on the affected field areas, which will accelerate once this construction piece is complete. Our goal is to restore the field to its previous condition as promptly as possible, to be used for the enjoyment of students, staff, and the community.

Parent iPad Meeting:  We will hold an iPad Orientation meeting to parents of 6th graders and parents of new 7th-8th graders on Tuesday, September 30th at 1:00pm and repeated at 6:30pm.  Suzanne is busy updating the iPads to the new OS and adding and removing apps based on information collected from the students, parents and teachers last Spring.  The newly configured machines will be distributed to the students beginning October 6th.  Our goal is to distribute the iPads during the week of October 6th to the 8th graders, followed by the 7th grade distribution on October 13 and the 6th grade distribution beginning October 27th.

Have a great week.
Best regards,
Shannon

Halloween Costume Drive
Please help the families of Haven House Family Shelter have a great Halloween by donating new or gently used costumes in all sizes (infant through adult).  The Girl Scout troops of Las Lomitas and La Entrada are working together with Suzanne Mitchell (La Entrada Technology Director) to collect costumes at both schools.  Look for the bins and Girl Scouts during morning drop off the weeks of October 6th and October 13th at Las Lomitas and the week of October 6th at La Entrada. No need to even get out of your car, we will take the costumes to the bin for you! (The bins will be out at both schools until 10/17.)

Haven House, part of Innvision/Shelter Network, offers emergency and transitional housing for homeless families.  Each night almost 100 kids (infants to teens) call the shelter home while their parents are working to move them back to permanent housing.  Your donation of Halloween costumes will ensure that these families can participate in the fun of the season at a very difficult time in their lives!
