From the PTA Presidents

We were so happy to see so many familiar and new faces at Meet the Teacher last Wednesday.
Thanks to those of you who stopped by the PTA table to say hello and ask how you can get involved!

Your membership in the PTA is vital to each student on campus!  Did you know that your dues allow us to offer a rich assortment of programs and services such as Field Trips, Science Fair, Spelling Bee, Book Fair, Holiday Workshop, Lunchtime Enrichment, Halloween Festivities...and many more!

Did you also know that the PTA funds a substantial portion of the outreach efforts of our school? Our outreach budget this year is $20,000!   It is through your generous giving that we are able to provide students in need with hot lunch, yearbooks, tickets to dances, and other services.  You will be learning more about this from Ozge Goker and Lisa Reid, so please stay tuned.

Signing up to be a member of the PTA is easy.  You can either click on the JOIN button above or the membership link HERE, or fill out the form and drop it at the office.

We look forward to seeing you at our first General Meeting on August 27th at 9:30 a.m. in the MUR. This is a great time to see old friends, meet some new friends, and hear more about the PTA and how you can be involved.  We will be answering questions, gathering volunteers and informing you of all the programs we have planned for this year!

Hope to see you there!

PTA News

2014-2015 Membership Drive is Underway!
Please consider supporting the La Entrada PTA this year.  La Entrada needs every family to join in order to provide the quality programs your child enjoys throughout the year.  Your contribution provides much-needed support towards Field Trips, Holiday Faire, Science Fair, Family Picnic, Halloween Event and Spelling Bee (just to name a few).  Joining the PTA does not mean you are signing up to volunteer.  Payment of your membership fees is simply demonstrating your support of our programs.  Please join us today!

Volunteer Now!

Volunteering through PTA Committees is your door to participating on campus.  Avoid the rush of volunteer sign up at the Job Fair August 27th and sign up for your selected committee spots by clicking HERE now.  Contact Julie Herlihy at volunteers@laentradapta.org with any questions on volunteering.

Volunteers Needed for Hot Lunch

Help out with one of the best volunteer jobs in the school!  Serving hot lunch not only helps the school, but also gives you a chance to see your child, and get to know the other students and volunteers. Hot lunch shifts last about 40 minutes and you can sign up to help weekly, every other week, once a month or as an on-call sub. Click HERE for more information about shift times and to sign up. For questions about volunteering for hot lunch, please contact Stacy Molano (molano@pacbell.net) or Stacy May (stacy.may1967@yahoo.com).

Volunteers Needed for Photo Day

We need volunteers to assist on photo day, Wednesday, September 10th and Thursday, September 11th.  Time slots are listed below.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Julie Herlihy at volunteers@laentradapta.org.

Wednesday September 10th from 8:15 - 11:15 a.m. and 12:20 - 2:20 p.m.

Thursday September 11th from 8:10  - 10:00 a.m.,  10:20 - 11:45 a.m., and 1:00 - 2:45 p.m.

Committee Chairs are needed for the below committees.
Keep in mind you can always partner with a friend and co-chair an event!
  • Lunchtime Enrichment - This program provides multiple activities for kids to choose from such as Latin Club, Book Club, Youth Action Council, and Around the World.  All activities have their own leader and usually meet on a monthly schedule.  The Chair position coordinates these activities and markets them to the students.
  • Holiday Faire - The Holiday Faire is a hands on craft fair in which all students create holiday gifts for their family and friends.  We have a fabulous group of ongoing volunteers for this event, but we need someone to coordinate and lead their efforts.  Last year's co-chairs are also happy to advise you in what needs to be done to make the fair a success!  The Faire typically takes about 5 days of prep time and will be held on December 5 this year. This La Entrada tradition is typically rated as one of the kids' favorite days of the year but without a leader, it won't happen this year, so please consider signing up!
  • Career Day - This is an opportunity for parents and community members to come forward and share their careers with 7th and 8th graders.  Chairing this committee will likely take a day of prep to ensure that we have all of the adults ready and setting up the MUR on the day of the event, March 20.
  • Multi-Cultural Day - This is an opportunity for district families to share their cultural traditions with the students.  We already have plans for Chinese New Year.   If you would like to Chair this event and broaden it beyond Chinese New Year, we will appreciate your leadership in structuring this day for the students.

Please contact Ashley Banks or Sandie Timm at president@laentradapta.orgif you are willing to chair!

Dear Parents,

Greetings from the health office! I am looking forward to seeing how much students have grown over the summer, hearing about their adventures and helping them stay healthy and ready to learn. Below are few quick reminders as we embark on a new school year.

When to Keep Sick Children Home from School:
We all want to try and prevent illness with good hygiene, good nutrition and enough sleep, but children do still get sick sometimes. It is not always easy to decide when your student needs to stay home from school due to illness. At La Entrada, we use the following guidelines to determine if an ill child needs to go home:

The American Academy of Pediatrics has some excellent resource for parents as well when trying to decide if your student needs to stay home.  For more information, click here:

Lice Checks:
Please check your student for any signs of head lice. Early detection of lice infestations through routine screening at home is the most effective way to reduce outbreaks. Please contact the La Entrada health office with any questions you may have about lice prevention, detection or treatment and the nurse can assist you. For more information about head lice, please see " A Parent's Guide to Head Lice " published by the California Department of Public Health at
