From the PTA Presidents |
Happy First Full week of school!!!
We were so excited to see so many familiar and new faces at Meet the Teacher last Tuesday. This event is always exciting for the students as well as the parents and teachers alike. We hope you were able to take the time to look over all the information the teachers passed out as well as the PTA Membership Form that you hopefully received.
Your membership in the PTA is vital to each student on campus! Every dollar goes directly to them this year. Our goal this year is to get an 80% participation. This will ensure that all of our programs are funded in full and that every child have a meaningful experience. Every family that joins the PTA on or before the Family Picnic on September 26th will be entered into a drawing. We will be choosing two winners at the family picnic, they will have the choice of either winning spirit wear or a week of free Children's Choice lunch. Signing up is easy! You can either click on the join button above or the membership link below, or fill out the form and drop it at the office. It doesn't matter how you do it, we just ask that you join!
We look forward to seeing you at our first General Meeting on August 28th in the MUR. We will have some social time from 9:15 am - 9:30 am, with the meeting starting at 9:30 am. This is a great time to see old friends, meet some new friends, and hear more about the PTA and how you can be involved. We will be answering questions, gathering volunteers and informing you of all the programs we have planned for this year!
See you in the Halls!
Laurel Timpson and Lisa Reid

2013-2014 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE IS UNDERWAY!
Please consider supporting the La Entrada PTA this year. La Entrada needs every family to join in order to provide the quality programs your child enjoys throughout the year. Your contribution provides much-needed support towards Field Trips, Holiday Faire, Science Fair, Family Picnic, Halloween Event and Spelling Bee (just to name a few).
Joining the PTA does not mean you are signing up to volunteer. Payment of your membership fees is simply demonstrating your support of our programs.

VOLUNTEER NOW!
Urgent Volunteer Need
Hot lunch is scheduled to begin this Wednesday. We are currently short volunteers to serve hot lunch, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays. We will not be able to provide this service without volunteers. Please consider signing up through the link above now! Questions about Hot Lunch? Contact co-chairs Stacy Molano or Stacy May at molano@pacbell.net or stacy.may1967@yahoo.com.
Committee Chairs are needed for the following:
- Halloween Event - This is a low time commitment job, planning and organizing several lunchtime games/activities for the 4/5 and 6-8 lunch periods. The committee is full of volunteers...we just need someone to steer the team!
- Lunchtime Enrichment - This program provides multiple activities for kids to choose from such as Latin Club, Book Club, Youth Action Council, and Around the World. All activities have their own leader and usually meet on a monthly schedule. The Chair position coordinates these activities and markets them to the students. We have one person willing to help, but we need a co-chair.

Please note that Yearbook will also be offered on Mondays instead of Thursdays.
Detailed class descriptions for these as well as other classes are available online at http://www.laslomitasleague.com/ under the classes tab. Please read the registration notes before registering. Registration closes on September 2nd at 11:59 pm.
The Las Lomitas League is in need of a registrar (or registrars). This is a great way to volunteer your time. Volunteers Needed in East Palo Alto - An Hour a Week Could Change a Student's Life
We are looking for parents willing to volunteer in a K-4 classroom this school year. Assist teachers with tutoring and individualized instruction much like you may have done in your own child's classroom, but these classes have no parents helping...no PTA. The schools are located in East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park. It's one hour per week with training starting September 6th. Our organization coordinates everything. To learn more about us, visit www.allstudentsmatter.org. Have questions or want to sign up? Contact Carolyn Blatman at CBlatman@aol.com. Portola Valley Theatre Conservatory (PVTC) offers THEATRE CLASSES this fall! PVTC's classes are open to students of all skill level, novice to experienced in Pre-K through high school. In addition to teaching acting skills, these classes build self-confidence and encourage collaboration with peers. Each week, students learn about theatre through well-loved theatre games and creative acting exercises. Students also rehearse a short play that is performed at the end of our 8-week session for family and friends. One of the highlights of the performance, in addition to the fact that all students get lines, is using simple costumes, props, & lighting, and performing the play on a real stage. Our fall theme is "Folktales, Myths, and Legends," so all of our short plays will center on classic stories of adventure and heroism. Thursday classes begin September 5. All other classes begin the week of September 9. Register online at Saturday September 14, 2013 at Webb Ranch. Drop off 1:15pm-1:30pm. Pick-up 3:00pm-3:15pm. Single riders are okay, but volunteer ratios apply. Nut-free snack and participation badge provided. Price contingent on number of riders but will be under $52. Advance registration required; No walk-ins accepted. Open to registered Girl Scouts ages 7 and up. Contact Ginny Rader at ginnyrad@me.com for more info.
