From the PTA Presidents |
Dear La Entrada Families,
As the 2012-2013 school year comes to a close, the 2013-2014 PTA has already been hard at work preparing for another great year at La Entrada. We must begin with a huge thank you to Laura Glader and Rachel Lokey, our past Presidents, for all of their time, energy, and leadership this past year. Under their direction, the PTA had many successes. New programs such as Reflections, Project Cornerstone, and Career Day will continue to enrich the culture of our campus. Returning programs such as the Family Picnic, the Used Book Fair, the Spelling Bee, and the Science Fair kept our traditions alive. While many talented committee chairs and volunteers made all this happen, Laura and Rachel were the fearless leaders not only for these programs, but for 28 programs in total! Thank you, Laura and Rachel!
We are very excited about the number of volunteers who have already come forward to support the PTA in the coming year. Almost all of our committee chair positions are full, but we are still searching for someone to lead the Family Picnic, the Halloween Event, and the Science Fair. If you are interested in chairing any of these events, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, MJ Crousore, at mjcrousore@gmail.com. To secure your spot on our committee lists as a volunteer, just click here. Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 28, at 9:00 a.m. We will kick off the new school year with our first PTA General Meeting and we hope to see you there!
Finally, on behalf of our entire school community, we want to thank our new Principal, Shannon Potts, for taking the reins this year. Shannon has been a huge supporter of our students, parents, and staff, and without her help and the help of Sonya Dineen, we would not have been able to accomplish all we did. We are excited to partner with both of them as we move forward toward a new year that will certainly come with its own challenges and rewards.
Here's to a great summer!

Parents of current 7th graders are needed to chaperone the Graduation Party!
Thank you to those who have already stepped up. We still need chaperones for the 8:30-10:00 pm shift. This is the first year that LE has requested parent volunteers for this event. You might be thinking, "Why would I volunteer? My child isn't graduating this year." Well, there are a few good reasons:
1) In less than one year, you will begin planning the graduation party for your own children. If you chaperone the party this year, you will walk way with tons of ideas for your own party. Seeing Jensen transformed and seeing the party in action will be a huge help when you begin the planning process.
2) Start a new La Entrada tradition where 7th Grade parents chaperone for the 8th Grade graduation party. Next year, the class behind you will do the same for you.
3) It's a chance to hang out with friends. Grab a friend and sign up together. The party is from 7:30-10:00 on June 11 and shifts are broken into 1 or 1.5 hour blocks. You can sign up at http://vols.pt/Yuc4ee

Important End of Year Announcement from the District Office: |
New Online Registration for 2013-2014 Returning Students
Las Lomitas Elementary School District is excited to announce an online student data validation and registration system for the upcoming school year, called InfoSnap. The system is a secure and green process, which allows the district to verify all student demographic, emergency and medical information for your child prior to the start of the new school year. The system will also allow you to electronically sign most the annual permission forms for school district policies.
In short, this online process
- Replaces the annual Student Emergency Card updates
- Replaces most the hard copy student registration needs, there will still be a need to print and return some forms
- Offers online permission forms that your child typically brings home on the first day of school, many of which you can now "digitally" approve, and
- Offers you the ability to update or changes any of your family or student anytime!
By early August, you will receive a letter with instructions on how to access the system for your children. The email will contain a link/instructions and a secure "snapcode" that links directly to your student's information. You will create an account, that you will use each year for this process, and submit a form for each student in your family. To make the process easier for families with multiple students, you will have the option to copy all generic family information to all other students in your family.
We need all returning families to complete these forms before the start of school. If you do not have access to the Internet, please contact your child's school and you can make an appointment to use a school computer in the library.
Again, you don't need to do anything right now. Look for our letter with instructions in early August.
If you have any further questions, please contact Suzanne Mitchell, 650-854-3962 x199 or email smitchell@llesd.org. Thank you. And have a nice summer :)

Las Lomitas Education Foundation |
Dear District Families, Thank you for making this the best fundraising year in the Foundation's history! Because of your generosity and your commitment to excellence in education, we have raised the most money ever for our schools for excellence and innovation. Your terrific response has helped us raise just over $3 Million this year, including our auction costs. This is a huge milestone for us as a community, and just goes to prove that we can make anything happen, if we put our minds and hearts to it. I am so honored and proud to have been the President of the Foundation this year. Thank you, again, for making it a fabulous and fun year. I also want to thank the most amazing Foundation team that I have had by my side. Without them, none of our success would have been possible. They worked tireless, long hours with tremendous passion, energy and conviction. Thank you dear Foundation! With deepest gratitude, Komal Shah Foundation President 2012-13 |

It's a great way for freshman parents to get involved at M-A --- a one day commitment that helps our teens break down barriers and create new levels of empathy and respect. Come participate in one of the most meaningful volunteer opportunities of the year.
Adult volunteers are critical to the program's success. Volunteers are needed to be small group facilitators on the three days from 8:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
To volunteer pick the date which works best for you, then e-mail your preference (be sure to specify the date) to Irene Searles and Lauren Calhoon at challengeday@mabearspta.org. Parent Volunteers Needed for M-A Admin Support 2013-2014
Is your 8th grader attending M-A next year? If so, please sign up to be on the administrative support volunteer list. There are no specific obligations - when the M-A Administration needs parent volunteers, we send out an email: if the volunteer opportunity fits in your schedule, you sign up; otherwise no need to respond. A sampling of events that use lots of parent volunteers are Arena Check-In, textbook distribution, schedule distribution, STAR test sorting, and AP test proctoring. Volunteering for Administrative Support a few times a year is loads of fun and a great way to meet other M-A parents and find out what's happening at M-A. To be placed on our list, please send us an email with your name to AdminSupport@mabearspta.org.

100 Club - Something Different for Summer 2013
Young people in our community, are you interested in developing your leadership skills? Pursuing more of your interests over the holidays? Would you like to do what you enjoy to help other people or simply have more control over your schedule? A few Las Lomitas parents are setting up a new virtual club for you this summer and we would love you to join. We will work with you, your parents and friends as needed, to develop your own projects so you can have the satisfaction of seeing them through from start to finish and help everyone work together to achieve a goal of contributing over 100 hours of community service or personal development between June 11 and August 20! The idea is to create a flexible, personal goal which can fit in amongst any other camps, travel plans or activities so don't be limited in any direction, get in touch and let's see what can happen when time, youth and vision come together.
This is a new, developing idea and we want to hear your ideas, feedback and suggestions on how we can make this work for you and your Summer. We plan to have Launch and End of Summer events and will be looking for lots of youthful energy and ideas so get in touch!

Become a Host Family: The American Field Service exchange program is looking for a host family for Augustin, a 16 year old boy from Chile who will be a Junior at Menlo Atherton High School next fall. Hosting a student can be an incredible experience for the hosted student as well as the hosting family. It is a chance to open you home, your hearts and to share cultures About Augustin: Agustin has a mind that is inclined toward the sciences. He has a very strong passion for robotics; he practices program and designing them everyday. Agustin has known "since he was young" that he wants to be an engineer in his adult life. He is a generous person who loves to help out his friends and peers with studying or whatever else they may need. Agustin sees living with a host family as a unique experience that will "last all [his] life". International travel is nothing new to him; he has already been to eleven foreign countries on three continents. Agustin takes further interest in rugby, soccer, and being with his family. Please contact Irene Searles if you have any interest in AFS and being a Host family at ivsearles@gmail.com.
