MUSIC ROOM MURAL
The La Entrada Visual and Performing Arts Department is pleased to announce that students will be designing and painting a mural on campus. This mural will be on the outside of the Music room. Helping Mr. Cooper, Ms. Gregori and Mrs. Ostrom will be muralist Ellen Silva. Ms. Silva has been instrumental in both murals already on campus. She has also created murals with other schools up and down the Peninsula. She works with Precita Eyes (www.precitaeyes.org), the organization that is responsible for the amazing murals all over San Francisco and beyond.
As this mural will be high profile, the project will need committed students from 4th through 8th grade. The mural will require one three hour session of painting. The dates are April 13 and 14, with painting sessions from 9:00 AM-Noon and 1:00 PM-4:00 PM. If these dates will not work for you, you may not work on the mural. The students will be chosen to represent each grade level and to balance gender. The students will also be chosen by their dedication to the project, as expressed in their essay.
The deadline for submitting applications is Friday February 15 at 2:50 PM. Please see Mr. Cooper in Room 10 (Music Room), Ms. Gregori in Room 4 or Mrs. Ostrom in Room 3 for applications and more details.

CORNERSTONE CORNER
This month the ABC readers are reading the book Mr. Peabody's Apple by Madonna to the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. It is about the power of words. This lesson will demonstrate to students the destructive and hurtful nature of rumors and gossip. It will also show how easily and quickly a person's good reputation can be damaged and how hard it is to repair. In today's world, with the usage of cell phones and computers, gossip and rumors can be spread anonymously and cause wider irreparable damage. We must choose our words carefully to avoid causing harm to others. The goal of the lesson this month is to:
· Identify qualities of good role models.
· Understand that each student can be a role model.
· Name their role models.
· Be Up-standers by giving support to others with kindness and respect in the face to face and digital world.
· Role model responsible ways to behave while online and in the real world.
· Demonstrate that everyone has the power to stop a rumor.
