Dear La Entrada Community,
It is hard to believe that 2012 is coming to an end. On behalf of the entire staff here at La Entrada, we would like to wish you all a very happy and restful winter break. Whether or not you are celebrating holidays, we hope that you find time to enjoy your families and friends.
Some thoughts as we have time off from school: our children will continue to want to maintain their relationships with their peers over break and many will resort to social media. I am providing some resources for you and your children on internet safety and digital citizenship.

Open Enrollment for 8th Graders
If you are a La Entrada 8th grader who would like to attend Menlo Atherton High School but do not live in the MA attendance area, you WILL be granted permission to attend MA High School as a 9th grader but you MUST fill out an open enrollment form and submit it to the high school district. Open Enrollment allows for parents/guardians to apply for a transfer from one school in the district to another for any reason. Open Enrollment ends in January so please pick up a form the LA Entrada Office or you may fill one out found on the SUHD website: http://www.sequoiadistrict.org/Page/1101

Common Core Standards
As you may know, the state adopted the California Common Core Standards. This means that what students will be expected to know and do at specific grade levels and in courses will be different than the expectations today. For some grade levels and courses they differences is larger than for others. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.
Resources as we move through the standards implementation:
- A Panel Discussion sponsored by LLESD on COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS is being held on January 24, 2013 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Las Lomitas Elementary School, Cano Hall. RSVP (required) to Sherry Jones at sjones@llesd.org or 650-854-1215 x23. Space is limited so please RSVP by 1/21/13.
It is sometimes hard to find time to focus on who we are as people, rather than what we are doing. We hope that everyone has time over break to sit back, relax, and just enjoy those around us for who they are.
Sincerely,
Shannon Potts & Sonya Dineen
