Healthy Snack bar Options at the Beach!!

We all know that preparing ahead is always the healthiest way to travel and go to the beach. We have learned over the last two weeks how to pack up a healthy cooler and prepare for a healthy beach picnic. Sometimes however, we just don't have time to do anything but get in the car and go. Most beaches have snack bars and here are some options to stay as healthy as you can.

  • Try a sandwich and leave off the mayo.
  • Whatever you order split with a friend.
  • Avoid the greasy fries and hotdogs.
  • Avoid "layered" foods like nachos with cheese.
  • Choose cheese pizza instead of pepperoni pizza.
  • Snack on pretzels or baked chips.
  • Replace regular candy bars with granola bars or cereal bars.
  • Choose yogurt and fresh fruit for lunch.
  • Try ice pops made with fresh fruit juice instead of the artificial flavored ones.
  • Drink water!!!!! If you somehow can't get H2O, then 100 percent fruit juice or sports drinks instead of regular soda.
  • Choose Graham crackers (regular and low-fat) or Animal Crackers instead of high fat cookies or snack cakes.
  • Fruit Cups if available
  • Small turkey sub on whole grain bun
  • Trail mix
  • Frozen yogurt instead of ice cream
  • Have a packet of nuts instead of packets of candy

Bring a kite to the park or beach, wait for a big gust of wind, go!!! You'll blow away approximately 100 calories in 12 minutes.
