Wheatberries!!! WOW!!!!

I am often asked by clients, what is a good replacement for pasta or rice in their favorite recipes? Besides quinoa, wheatberries have a great nutty flavor and have some excellent health benefits. Wheatberries are composed of the entire wheat kernel (except for the hull), including bran, germ, and endosperm, giving this food 6 grams of fiber per quarter cup. As in other whole grain products, here are some of the health benefits to the wheatberry.

Can help Lower the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

Can Lessen Chronic Inflammation

May Help Prevent Gallstones

Promotes Gastrointestinal Health

Helps lower the risks of Breast and Colon Cancer

Contains important nutrients such as Iron, Calcium, B vitamins, Folate and Potassium

Helps increase levels of protective HDL

Helps lower cholesterol

Helps lower high triglycerides

Helps lower high blood pressure

A quarter cup of dry, uncooked wheatberries contains 150 calories. As always if you are trying to lose weight, be aware of your portions.
