The Health Benefits of Legumes

          

    

Beans, peas and lentils all belong to the legume family. You may also hear them called pulses, which is just another word for edible seeds. Each member of this family has a different nutrient content but they all contain excellent sources of protein and fiber. Here are some other great reasons to be incorporating legumes into your diet for optimal health and nutrition.

 

Can help lower cholesterol levels 

Can help lower triglycerides levels

Can help reduce blood pressure

Can help reduce your risk of coronary artery disease

Can help reduce your risk of osteoporosis

Lowers you risk for type 2 Diabetes

Full of fiber to aid in weight loss

Contain nutrients such as Zinc and Vit B6

Contain heart healthy nutrients such as Folate, Iron and Potassium

 

A 1-cup serving of legumes supplies 33 percent of women's and 27 percent of men's daily protein.

Prepare and pack a picnic (20 calories in 10 minutes), lug it from the car to the grass (18 calories in 5 minutes), and burn approximately 100 calories!!!
