Healthy Foods to Have on Hand in an Emergency
Life is full of surprises. You just never know when you are going to be hit by a hurricane or a snowstorm. Being new to a coastal region, along with a state of emergency, how should I prepare? I have been asked this question many times and here is a list of healthy options you should always have in case you cannot get to a supermarket or you do not have power for a number of days.
One gallon of water per person per day
Peanut Butter- chock-full of healthful fats and protein
Nuts and trail mixes-vacuum packed for freshness
Whole-wheat crackers
Multigrain cereals
Shelf stable Organic Valley Milk
Granola bars and power bars
Canned tuna, salmon, chicken, or turkey
Canned Healthy choice soups
Dried Fruits and Veggies
Sports drinks- if water is scarce
Sugar, salt, and pepper-If you have access to a propane or charcoal stove, you may be just doing some cooking.
Multivitamins- great to always have on hand ,especially if there are times when you cannot eat optimally

A woman weighing 130 pounds can burn approximately 102 calories by running up and down the stairs for 11 minutes!!! Great way to burn calories while stuck at home :)
