Dundas Valley Montessori School
April 2015 Events and Information

Dear ,

Welcome back DVMS families. We hope you all had a fun and refreshing March Break.

  • Last week, Hamilton's own Arkells won Juno awards for Rock Album of the Year and Group of the Year.

  • Save The Date: Arkells vocalist Max Kerman is headlining our annual Fundraiser Concert to benefit Strata: Montessori Adolescent School on June 12.

If all goes according to plan, we will hold this year's event at the new home of Strata, which you had a chance to visit during the open house a few weeks ago.

The concert will be the culmination of a Capital Fundraising campaign to make the purchase of Strata's new property possible. Exciting fundraising announcements and opportunities are coming in April.

In the spirit of giving, Arkells announced that 100 percent of the proceeds made from "Hey Kids!" digital sales will be donated to Partners In Health Canada. On their latest Canadian tour, Arkells partnered with Plus One, the movement co-founded by Arcade Fire, to support Partners in Health Canada, a global health organization committed to global health equity and improving the health of the poor and marginalized, aims echoed in the video's themes.

"The experience of collaborating with Partners In Health and Plus One on our latest tour felt so unambiguously positive that we asked if we could offer a song to the cause. Another small gesture, but I'd like to think that a collection of little good deeds adds up to something meaningful," said Max Kerman, lead singer, Arkells. "Our friend, filmmaker Joe DiBenedetto directed the video at The Dundas Valley Montessori School in Hamilton. It might be our favourite video yet. If you've got a buck to spare and dig the tune, know that all of the proceeds are going to a good place." You can purchase the song here.

Thank you for taking the time to read the DVMS Event and Information Parent Newsletter. Please add this important information to your calendar. All of the event details can also be found on the DVMS website calendar at the link above. The website calendar is a Google calendar, so you can easily add important dates directly to your own.

April 27- May 1, 2015
Friday, May 1-- Grandparents' Day: 9:00am - 11:00am.
This is the annual opportunity for the children's grandparents to come and spend a part of the morning in the Montessori environments with their grandkids. This is always a fun day that the children look forward to.

Please remind the grandparents to limit their visits to 30 minutes in the classroom, and remember that we can only accommodate two visitors per child. Also, unless previously arranged and notified, we ask that grandparents do not ask if the child can leave early with them. This has caused a number difficult situations in the past. Thank you.
