Happy New Year to everyone in the DVMS community. Here's hoping you all had a relaxing break and a wonderful start to the new year.

After a hectic December, January looks to be much more quiet as we all settle back into our classroom routines.

Important Dates

There are no all-school events in January.
A reminder that Friday, February 17th is a PD Day.

Hot Lunch
As of this week, our new hot lunch provider will be Niche Catering. We would like this to be successful so we are hoping a great many of you sign on. The new menu is posted in the lobby.

Upper Elementary Activities
Well, the snowshoeing we planned for January with the fine people at Luna Adventures had to be moved to February. The weather was clearly not behaving. This leaves us with a bit of a hole. We will discuss this with the class and are hoping to come up with a plan by Friday. We promise something new and challenging.

Lower Elementary Activities
The Lower Elementary classes will be either swimming or skating on a rotating basis. This year we are excited to offer hockey lessons to those children who are interested. If your child would like to participate, they will require a helmet with face shield, elbow pads, hockey gloves, and shin pads. Hockey will begin on the 20th of January. Regular skating and swimming starts this week: skating on Thursdays and swimming on Fridays. Both activities are only two blocks away so we will be walking. A note will go home early this week with your child's schedule.

Playground Attire
The weather conditions change quickly this time of year. Please be mindful of this when your children are dressing for school in the mornings. There may be snow, mud, or sun. We ask that, along with warm coats, hats, and gloves/mittens, you please send rubber boots and splash pants if you believe that your child may be one of those drawn to the wonders of water, dirt, and sand. Also, please keep the wind chill in mind and have your child dress according to the wind chill, not the thermometer.
PLEASE LABEL ALL BELONGINGS.

Timely Arrivals
It is quite disruptive when a child arrives late. We would like to have everyone in the school by 8:45.

Twitter Account
DVMS now has a Twitter account. We will be using it for reminders and updates, such as "indoor dismissal today," or "sign-up sheets are in the foyer," or "SNOW DAY!!" for example. If you use Twitter, please follow us at @dvmstweets
