FIGHT the Lady Killer

The ultimate odd couple, Barbra Streisand and Ron Perelman, have joined forces to improve awareness about heart disease, the #1killer of women. Every second another woman dies from heart disease and yet few women realize their risk. Follow the work of their newly formed Women's Health Alliance. @FightLadyKiller.
Are you looking for a way to reduce stress and support a good cause? Consider purchasing Barbra's latest release called Partners. Better yet, buy a copy for a teenager's stocking. They'll think it's the new version of coal.

WARNING: Boomers Ahead
"Baby Boomers are the people your parents warned you about," said Joe Coughlin, director of MIT's Age Lab speaking before the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative. In a presentation worthy of a SNL skit, Joe described Age Lab innovations in transportation, housing, healthcare and caregiving. Follow their work @agelab and consider joining one of their research projects. |

Trends In Care
In January insurers will start funding electronic office visits. Watch an explosion of new companies like WellFrame, Senscio Systems and Care Innovations electronically link physicians and health coaches to patients. If you count on long waits for medical appointments to catch up on email, those days may be ending, soon.

Let's Live Together, Virtually
Remember the sixties? I don't either. But, boomers are worrying senior housing leaders by eschewing the idea of assisted living and making alternative housing plans. Many are joining virtual retirement villages like Staying Put in New Canaan, CT or Carleton-Willard at Home in Concord, MA to extend their ability to age in place. As "Airbnb meets Senior Living," mature single women are also finding shared housing a better and less expensive option.

Book Review: Being Mortal
Winter has arrived in Boston, my time to binge read and review those often depressing books about healthcare and aging so you don't have to take mood-altering medication. Last weekend, I lit a fire, opened a bottle of wine, and read three new releases. Check out my review of Being Mortal. Share your favorite reads on our Facebook page. If you're too busy to keep up, send review requests to info@colpartners.com or tweet @colpartners. I'm stocking up on logs.
