Greetings!

Summer approaches as we continue to help families support aging loved ones without disrupting careers, health, or financial well-being. Here is some news from the Circle of Life network. Encourage your friends and colleagues to attend an event, support golfers fighting cancer, and Join the Circle!

Keep well and in touch,

Janet

Prescription for Recipes

Summer barbecues and family gatherings are a great time to try new recipes for healthy aging such as vegetarian burgers using sweet potatoes, a meal created by chefs from the Culinary Institute of America at the annual Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives™ meeting in Napa Valley, CA. Organized to encourage physicians to prescribe food instead of drugs, this event is the brainchild of foodie Dr. David Eisenberg @ Harvard's School of Public Health. Register now.

Making Care Easier

Are you and your siblings trying to coordinate schedules and tasks to help your parents? Recently, our friends Julie Fry and Renee Fry-Hawker launched a new mobile Android and iPhone app for Making Care Easier. It's free to users; like many on-line resources they make money through advertising or selling products. Check out the app here and send us your feedback. Does it help you save time?
Protect Your Family! Don't Write a Blank Check to the Nur$ing Home

Imagine having a conversation with 11 of the best elder law attorneys who answer questions about trusts and caregiving, reverse mortgages and Medicaid, senior living options and end of life issues. With one chapter written by friend Karol Bisbee, RN Esq., this book covers it all in a conversational voice devoid of incomprehensible legal jargon. A quick summer read BEFORE you make an appointment with an attorney. Click Here to order a copy for yourself, your parents or your grandparents.

Move Over, Angel Investors!

What do you get when you introduce 80-year old retirees to 20-something engineers? Useful products and funding, too. North Hill assisted living residents have created an innovation fund for Healthy Aging in partnership with young engineers from Olin College. Will other retirement communities follow their lead? The first award winners are friends Amos Meeks and Molly Farison who created an inexpensive scale for wheelchair users. Follow @LilypadScales.

The Patient Experience: Who's listening?

Don't ignore those hospital surveys; your opinion matters, and hospital CEOs are listening. This year, the Department of HHS ties hospital reimbursement for Medicare to the quality of the patient experience and patient satisfaction surveys. Among the leaders helping hospital CEOs improve the patient experience is friend Dr. Ananth Raman who shared insights over dinner recently from his publication, Health Care's Service Fanatics. Read more here
