My name is Matt Auth and I am the Reservation Director for Bayport.  Previously, I have been the program director of both Rappahannock Scout Camp and Camp Chickahominy.  Also joining us at camp this year we will have District Executive Eric Smith, as the Rivah Base Director, and District Executive Jim Ewing as the camp business manager, some old faces in new positions.  But there's more changing at Bayport besides the management.  We've also added and changed a number of programs.

At Rappahannock Scout camp we are adding some new and fun things to do.  First we are extending our trail to eagle program area.  This area has traditionally only offered classes in the morning, but we are adding afternoon classes in order to allow more scouts to take those tough to get eagle required badges.  We are also going to be shifting Geocaching over to Scoutcraft and Scoutcraft will be teaching the new requirements for Cooking merit badge.

On Rivah Base we have added three new programs and brought an old one back.  This year marks the return of the Bayport Sampler program.  Participants of the Sampler will get a chance to try out all the different programs Rivah Base has to offer.  Spending a half or whole day on different programs.  The participants will get to help plan out their week long program Sunday night and spend the rest of the week having a blast.    The three new programs are the Canoe Trek, Personal Water Craft (PWC) and Paddle Boards and Gear Up.  On the Canoe Trek participates will spend the entire week canoeing and camping along the Rappahannock River, finishing up at Bayport on Friday.  The PWC and Paddle Board program will allow participants to partake in the two newest aquatics programs BSA has to offer.  They will earn their Personal Water Craft license and learn how to navigate the river on a Stand Up Paddle Board.  Participants in the Gear Up program will learn the ins and outs of a mountain bike.  Along the way they will earn Cycling merit badge.  The Gear Up program will allow the boys to ride on a single track trail designed specifically for mountain bikes, with advanced technical features.

We are all looking forward to new adventures and fun times at Bayport.  I'd like to say thank you for taking time to read this newsletter, it will be a valuable source of information on all things Bayport.  I look forward to seeing you this summer!

 Yours in Scouting,

Matt Auth
Camp Director
