Leesville Police Department D.A.R.E. Program Unveils New Car
Correction: The previous press release had an incorrect headline. We apologize for the error.

LEESVILLE, La.-- The Leesville Police Department DARE program got a new set of wheels this month after trading in the PT Cruiser that Sergeant Willie Allen, DARE officer, was driving. A 2011 Chevrolet Camaro was added to the lineup of vehicles at the department.

"The car is important to the image of the program," said Sgt. Allen. "A cool car will inspire kids to say 'man I want to be a cop one day so I can drive cool cars,' instead of seeing the drug dealer down the street having the only cool car."

The Camaro, as well as the wrapping, was purchased through DARE funding at Alford Motors.  Alford Motors also donated the tires and rims at a cost of $4,000. The wrap on the vehicle is patriotic to show support of our nation.

The DARE program was started in Louisiana to fight the influence that drugs and alcohol have on kids of all ages. The major education programs are aimed at 5th and 7th graders. A couple of years ago the program went through a revamping stage. It now focuses on making wise decisions in everyday life.

It is important for kids to hear from the police about how important it is to think through their decision making. Making decisions wisely can keep kids out of troubles like drugs and alcohol in the future.

The new car can be seen at several upcoming parades including the Deridder parade today at 5 p.m., the Lion's Club Rodeo Parade October 8, at 4 p.m., the Leesville High School Homecoming Parade October 16, at 3 p.m., and the New Llano Parade.
