LEESVILLE, LA.-- The recent Grand Re-Opening of the Leesville Municipal Golf Course has helped to raise $2,800 for the course.
"We'd like to thank all the golfers, vendors and donors who made the event such a success," said Leesville Mayor Rick Allen. "Funds raised at the event will be used to update and refurbish the grounds and facilities."
The City is still accepting donations, so if you made a pledge or if you want to be a part of making the golf course better, please send contributions to the Leesville Municipal Golf Course at 331 Country Club Road, Leesville, LA, 71446, or to City Hall (attention Golf Course) at 101 West Lee Street, Leesville, LA, 71446.
As part of the improvements, a new tile floor will be installed in the pro-shop this week. In mid-July, a contractor is set to deep-tine aerate, top dress, level and verticut the greens at a cost of about $1,200.
"We're getting an excellent deal on revitalizing our greens," said Mike Carter, golf course manager. Previously, Carter had feared that many greens would need to be replaced at a cost of $5,000-7,000 each. However, research revealed that the process of verticutting will not only kill the weeds on the greens, but also encourage the bermuda grass to multiply. "A verticutting attachment will also be a future purchase for the golf course, which will provide the golf course staff the tools they need to maintain the greens," he said.
In the meantime, activities at the golf course are in the works for the rest of the summer. Golf clinics for men, women and youth can be organized with as few as eight participants each. The cost is $25 for the youth clinic or $30 for the men's or women's clinic. Call the golf course at 337-239-2625 to put your name on the list and you'll be contacted when the clinics are scheduled.
The next tournament is set for August 25, 2015.
