LEESVILLE, La.--On Thursday, June 12, 2015 a City of Leesville water well lost service. The loss of service is believed to have been caused by a lightening strike during an electrical storm.
Because a water well was temporarily out of service, the City of Leesville is issuing a system-wide water boil advisory. All City of Leesville water customers are advised to boil and disinfect water used for consumption until the boil advisory is lifted by the City of Leesville.
Water used for consumption, such as for brushing your teeth, food preparation, or drinking, must be boiled and disinfected. There are three ways to accomplish this:
1. Boil water for one full minute in a clean container. The one-minute boil time begins after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.
2. If the water is clear, mix 1/8 teaspoon of unscented, liquid chlorine laundry bleach with one gallon of water and let it stand for at least 30 minutes prior to consumption. If the water is cloudy or colored, use ¼ teaspoon per gallon of water. Be sure to mix thoroughly. If the treated water has too strong a chlorine taste, it can be made more palatable by allowing the water to stand exposed to the air for a few hours or by pouring it from one clean container to another several times.
3. If the water is clear, mix 5 drops of 2% United States Pharmacopeia (USP) tincture of iodine solution to each quart of clear water and let it stand for 30 minutes prior to consumption. If the water is cloudy or colored, use 10 drops to each quart of water.
This advisory remains in effect until rescinded by the City of Leesville. If you have any questions, or comments, please contact Leesville City Hall at 337.239.2444.
The City of Leesville apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks its residents for their patience.
