City of Leesville Issues Boil Advisory for Water Outages on June 11, 2015

LEESVILLE, La.--On Thursday, June 11, 2015, a water line near Highway 28 was shut off, causing multiple customers of the City of Leesville water system to experience an outage. The outage lasted much longer than expected due to unforeseen circumstances.

Some customers are still without water; however the outage is expected to be repaired soon.

The City is issuing a Boil Advisory for those who have experienced or are still experiencing an outage today. Only residents who lost water service today, Thursday, June 11, 2015, must disinfect water used for consumption until the boil advisory is lifted by the City of Leesville.

Water used for consumption, such as brushing your teeth, or food preparation, must be boiled and disinfected. There are three ways to accomplish this:

1. Boil water for one full minute in a clean container. The one-minute boil time begins after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.

2. If the water is clear, mix 1/8 teaspoon of unscented, liquid chlorine laundry bleach with one gallon of water and let it stand for at least 30 minutes prior to consumption. If the water is cloudy or colored, use ¼ teaspoon per gallon of water. Be sure to mix thoroughly. If the treated water has too strong a chlorine taste, it can be made more palatable by allowing the water to stand exposed to the air for a few hours or by pouring it from one clean container to another several times.

3. If the water is clear, mix 5 drops of 2% United States Pharmacopeia (USP) tincture of iodine solution to each quart of clear water and let it stand for 30 minutes prior to consumption. If the water is cloudy or colored, use 10 drops to each quart of water.

This advisory remains in effect until rescinded by the City of Leesville. If you have any questions, or comments, please contact Leesville City Hall at 337.239.2444.

The City of  Leesville apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks its residents for their patience.
