LEESVILLE, La.--A group of Christian performers will gather at Polk Outdoor Theatre at 7 p.m. May 22 for Main Street's inaugural A Night of Praise and Worship.
Polk Theatre is located at Texas and Fourth Street in the downtown historic district. The event is free of charge, but a love offering will be collected. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of handicapped playground equipment for the City of Leesville Parks. Performers will include Darell Woofter, The Old Man Band, Ben Pollock, Shawn Carter and many others including Sign Language to Music Artist Andrea Elise.
Woofter, the creator of A Night of Praise and Worship, said he hopes to make the event an annual one for the city. Woofte said his granddaughter, who is confined to a wheelchair and cannot join other children in play, inspired him to make sure that all children can enjoy local playgrounds and feel included.
"Have you ever watched a child swing and play in the sunshine and it brought you that memory of freedom and innocence?," he said. "Have you ever wondered what it must feel like to watch but never be able to be a part of it? That is what my granddaughter and many others go through all the time. "We need to change that so that all the children may experience the same joy and share the laughter of playing."
If you are unable to attend the event, you can still donate at www.gofundme.com/playinthepark.
If you are able to join us, please make sure to bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Refreshments will be available.
