Local Businessman Donates Body Cams to Leesville Police Department

LEESVILLE, La--  Richard Sarver, longtime resident of Leesville and founder of ERA Sarver Real Estate, recently donated $3000 to the Leesville Police Department for the purchase of body cams for officers on patrol.

Businessman Richard Sarver (center) presents a check for $3000 to Leesville Mayor Rick Allen (left) and Police Chief Greg Hill (right), for the purchase of six body cameras to be used by officers.

Sarver said he decided to donate the money after watching a news report on other towns supplying officers with body cams.

"Mr. Sarver has been very involved in the community for longer than I've been alive and has always been a generous person. So it didn't surprise me one bit when he called me with this." said Leesville Mayor Rick Allen. The mayor said he hopes that this will encourage other businesses to get involved in the community.

The donation is enough to buy six cameras that will be assigned to officers on duty that do not have cameras installed in their patrol cars.

"These will provide concrete evidence of an incident, as well as protect our officers against false complaints," said Leesville Chief of Police Greg Hill.

The cameras are being ordered immediately, and will be delivered sometime within the next two months.
