LEESVILLE, La. --City of Leesville customers will see the annual State of Louisiana Safe Drinking Water fee in the amount of $3.20 on the bills that are due March 15, 2014.
This is only for one month (occurring from December through January) in accordance with Act 125 of 2000, which became effective on July 1, 2000 for Community Water Systems.
The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) has been in place for more than 30 years and is the main federal law that ensures the quality of Americans' drinking water.
Under SDWA, the United States Environmental Protection Agency sets standards for drinking water quality and oversees the states, localities, and water suppliers who implement those standards.
The State of Louisiana passed Act 125 in 2000 to support the Louisiana Safe Drinking Water Program. This resulted in an annual fee that will pay for all inspections, tests or procedures on public water supplies that may be authorized by the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Questions regarding water and sewer bills may be directed to City Hall at 337.238.2257 or 2258.
