City of Leesville to investigate diner incident
|
LEESVILLE, La.--Upon advise of the City's attorney, the Leesville City Administrator has instructed the Leesville Chief of Police to begin an internal affairs investigation into the incident that occurred involving city police officers at B.J.'s Diner at approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014.
"Given the seriousness of allegations that have been made concerning the conduct of the City's police officers during the incident, I believe this is the right thing to do," said Leesville Mayor Robert Rose.
Internal affairs investigations, by their nature, can be lengthy, since municipalities must follow a process dictated by state civil service laws, including granting any police officer whose conduct is being investigated up to 30 days to secure counsel before answering any questions.
