In 2010, the median age for people living in Leesville was 33.5, with the vast majority of residents, more than 2,400, between 20 and 44 years of age. More than 800 companies employed the residents of Leesville in 2010, which included almost 1,000 veterans, and more than 82 percent of the population had a high school diploma or higher in 2010.
"It's exciting to see that the population of Leesville is actually growing," said Leesville Mayor Robert Rose. "The demographics of Leesville show that we're an up and coming community with a lot to offer, not only to our residents but to those companies who'd like to do business here. We're ready and waiting."
With a population approaching 7,000, Leesville recently adopted a strategic plan for growth as part of its completion of Louisiana Economic Development's Louisiana Development Ready Communities Program (LDRC). The program encourages and supports selected Louisiana communities to become development ready, competitive and "open for business" by creating and implementing a strategic community and economic development plan.
Leesville completed the program in 2013.
"We now have a written plan that describes how we're going to leverage our assets and address challenges," said Mayor Rose. "We have a plan that includes strategies to address education, workforce development, infrastructure, leadership, and marketing/communications."
