Arkansas Public Service Commission Town Hall Meeting:
The Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC) is hosting a Town Hall meeting at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17 at the Coronado Community Center, 150 Ponderosa Lane, featuring John P. Bethel, Executive Director of the Arkansas Public Service Commission. Bethel will address power rate increases including, a major rate increase proposed by Entergy. All Entergy customers in Hot Springs Village and surrounding areas are invited to attend this very important meeting.    Click here to read the entire press release.
 
Administration
Labor Day Closing: The Administration Building will be closed on Monday, September 7 for the Labor Day Holiday. For your convenience, Property Owner Services will be open on Saturday, September 5 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Committees: The Property Owners' Association is seeking members to serve on the Recreation Committee. HSVPOA Auction
 : Cox Auctioneers will conduct an auction, on behalf of HSVPOA, on Monday, October 26. Excess equipment including dining-room furnishings, construction/golf equipment, a bucket truck and miscellaneous items will be sold. Location of the auction and additional information will be released at a later date.

Permitting & Inspection 
Builder Series Meeting: The third Builder Series Meeting for 2015 will be held on Wednesday, September 30 at 3:00 pm at Coronado Center. Mike Dannels of Tropic Air, our guest speaker, will discuss heating and air conditioning and yearly maintenance of heating and air conditioning units. Door prizes will be presented at the end of the meeting (you must be present to win). Due to limited space, please preregister by calling the Permitting & Inspections Office at 501-922-5562.

Urban Deer Hunt: The Permitting & Inspections Department and the Common Property & Forest Committee would like to remind all residents that the HSV Urban Deer Hunt for 2015-2016 is underway (September 1, 2015 - February 28, 2016). Eligible registered hunters have been issued a Dash Pass to display when hunting in HSV. This Dash Pass must be displayed on the vehicle dashboard when the hunter parks and leaves the vehicle.
Gate Security: At the August 19 Board Meeting, the the Board approved contracting with AlliedBarton for gate security. Tentative start date is September 25. Click here for more. 
 
Fire Department
Open House - Saturday, October 10: The Hot Springs Village Fire Department will be hosting an open house from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.on Saturday, October 10. Handouts will be available for adults and goody bags for the children. Fun and games for the kids will include fire hose practice, bounce house and fire-truck tours. Hotdogs and chips will be the menu of the day. The event is sponsored by Village Assembly of God Church and Sam's Club. See your firefighters at work with a fire show consisting of four different firefighting exhibitions including repelling, propane gas fire, extrication and structure fire in the training tower.
Public Works
Roadwork:
Holiday Sanitation Schedule - The sanitation routes will run one day late next week due to the Labor Day holiday. There will be no yard waste collection on Friday, September 11.
 
Street division crews will begin crack sealing next week on Fresno Road between Alicante and Hidalgo. Please observe all signs and use caution when approaching work areas.
 
Smoke Testing: Smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system continues. The testing is currently in the gravity sewer area in the southwestern part of the Village, and the areas being tested will be posted daily on the Public Works Advisory message call 501-922-5556 and select "3" when prompted.  
Recreation
Waypoint Grand Opening on Saturday, Sep. 5 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Don't miss Waypoint's Grand Opening this Saturday, September 5. To celebrate the holiday, Waypoint will be open Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Monday 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Stop by and try a sample from the coffee bar and have a taco from Little Penguin Tacos. Try out our kayaks and paddle boards and participate in organized races. Enjoy live music at 5:00 p.m. featuring Rupert Wates (our September Rock Porch singer/songwriter) and Shawn James and the Shapeshifters at 7:00 p.m.The bands will be setting up outside, so be sure to bring your lawn chair.

Ingress traffic will turn from DeSoto Blvd. onto Los Lagos. Egress traffic will be detoured to Los Lagos Drive to exit on Calella. Barriers and signs will be posted

HSV Tennis Association Fun on Sunday:
Fun Sunday, one of the most popular Hot Springs Village Tennis Association events, will be Sunday, September 13 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Coronado Tennis Center. This is primarily a social event with some good competition thrown in and fun for all levels and abilities. Cost is $7.00 and includes balls, soft drinks and dinner. Each player is responsible for their own court fees. There is a limit of 80 players, so be sure to sign up early at the Coronado Tennis Center Pro Shop at 151 Ponderosa lane, online at hsvta.net or call the pro shop at 501.922.5054.

Artisan Market on Saturday, September 19:

Enjoy autumn in the Village at the Fall Artisan Market from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Grove Park. There will be lots of vendors from across the state featuring a variety of handmade products including art, jewelry, wood-carved items and more.

2nd Annual Chili Cook Off, Saturday, October 10: Registration is now open for the 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off. Enter for a chance to win cash prizes. First place prize is $100, second place is $75 and third place is $50. Entry fee is $10 and applications are available at the Balboa Club. The contest is limited to the first 20 registrants. Don't cook: no problem! Plan to come out at 5:00 p.m. to sample the chili and vote for your favorite. Literary Festival: Booth registration is open for the Hot Springs Village Literary Festival to be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11 at the Coronado Community Center located at 150 Ponderosa Lane. This event is sponsored by Friends of the Coronado Center Library, Hot Springs Village Writers and the Coronado Center Library. The event will feature panel discussions, local authors, library tours, build a story, local literary clubs and organizations and much more. At the conclusion of the event, a reception will be held. Registration deadline is September 11. Contact the Library at 501.922.3555 to registration or for more information. 
 
Green Market: Green Market is held on Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Grove Park located at 1105 DeSoto Boulevard. Local farmers and artisans offer vegetables, home-baked goods, meat, eggs, fruits, soup mixes, handcrafted items and more.

Cedar Creek Trail Closed: Cedar Creek Trail remains closed due to downed trees and dangerous conditions.  Please do not use this trail.  Cleanup is underway. Thank you for your patience.           
Coronado Fitness Center
Nutrition Workshop: Join Kathy Packard, Director of Education for the Oaklawn Center of Aging, for an in-depth Nutrition Workshop beginning on September 22. Topics covered in this four-part series include defining a healthy eating plan and learning how what you eat affects your body. The cost of the workshop is $10 and covers all four sessions. Indoor Cycling: You asked for it, you got it! The Coronado Fitness Center will
start a monthly Saturday indoor cycling class. The first class will be held from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. on September 12. 

Lifeguard Training Course: An American Red Cross Lifeguard training program is scheduled from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on September 14 - 18, at the Coronado Fitness Center. The courses will teach the knowledge and skills needed to help prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies and will provide lifeguard certification, which is valid for two years. The cost of the training course is $50 and is open to anyone 15 years of age and older.
